1.0 out of 5 stars Rife with Errors
By Matt Hawk on July 20, 2021
I am tutoring a student who chose this as his free choice summer reading book.

After getting through the first page of the first chapter I noticed problems with historical accuracy.

Claims like "Germany started WWI" stand out. It even claims that point is universally agreed upon. It claims things like HMS Hood was the most powerful battleship before the Bismarck, but the Hood was not a Battleship. It carried Battleship guns and was classified a Battlecruiser. It repeats the lie created by Italian and Nazi propagandists that Polish cavalry bravely charged German tanks when the battle in question had German tanks arrive after the fact. An Italian newspaper took a photo of the dead horses and men by tanks and created the headline.

It fails to mention Japan as a member of the Axis powers when such things are referenced.

Finally there are formatting and proofreading errors as can be seen on the page with the map of Europe. Where it states that Poland is to the left of the regions that Germany ceded as a result of World War One. That would notably be France as the other regions of Poland are further East and would be to the right.

These numerous errors lead me to doubt the other information within the book's veracity.

Finally, the book is very casual at points and at the end even includes a pitch for his book about battles in the Pacific. There are far better histories of World War Two for your child to read.
