Grey: Fifty Shades of Grey as Told by Christian (Fifty Shades as Told by Christian Book 1) Kindle Edition
E L James revisits the world of Fifty Shades with a deeper and darker take on the love story that has enthralled millions of readers around the globe.
"I've never felt this desire, this . . . hunger before. It's a new feeling, new and shiny. I want so much from her: her trust, her obedience, her submission. I want her to be mine, but right now . . . I'm hers."
Christian Grey exercises control in all things; his world is neat, disciplined, and utterly empty—until the day that Anastasia Steele falls into his office, in a tangle of shapely limbs and tumbling brown hair. He tries to forget her, but instead is swept up in a storm of emotion he cannot comprehend and cannot resist. Unlike any woman he has known before, shy, unworldly Ana seems to see right through him—past the business prodigy and the penthouse lifestyle to Christian's cold, wounded heart.
Will being with Ana dispel the horrors of his childhood that haunt Christian every night? Or will his dark sexual desires, his compulsion to control, and the self-loathing that fills his soul drive this girl away and destroy the fragile hope she offers him?Discover the world of Fifty Shades of Grey:

I hadn’t picked up a book in years, life had just gotten too busy for me to indulge in someone else’s story. But, I like many others, just had to know what all this talk was about. So I took a chance and ordered all three paperbacks. I fell totally and completely in love with Ana and Christian, I mean head over heels in love! I just couldn’t flip those pages fast enough, I even learned to cook, amongst other household duties, with one hand just so I didn’t have to put my beloved paperback down.
When I heard Christian’s POV was going to be released I was equally excited and scared. Let’s face it, the man is without a doubt, Fifty Shades of Messed Up and as much as I wanted to know what he was thinking I wasn’t sure if I could handle being in his mind.
When I read Ana’s POV I remember being sad that she left at the end of the first book and thanking god I had the second book to dive into so I wouldn’t have to go any length of time before I knew what happened. She was just a girl that fell in love with a boy and it just didn’t work out or at least that’s what I thought at the time and it just made me sad.
But having just finished Christian’s POV I am actually depressed, he just hurts my heart. I am surprised I feel that way because I know how this all plays out….. But nonetheless that’s how I feel. Watching this man fall in love and be willing to give up everything he knows and feels he needs because of his love for Ana is just everything!
I am so glad to have had the chance to go back and revisit Ana and Christian via Christian’s POV. Job, well done, Ms. James. Thank you so much for giving us Christian’s story.
1. This is a retelling. If you've read the other novels it will seem somewhat repetitive but I mean what did you expect? You knew what this was before you read it.
2. This is still a kinky, messed up, etc. book. If you didn't like the first novels I don't see why you would like this one. This type of book isn't for everyone. It doesn't mean it's bad, it just boils down to what you personally like.
I actually loved this book. I read the original Fifty Shades of Grey and was apathetic about it. I found Anastasia and Christian to sometimes be annoying and unrelatable. I especially disliked Christian. I couldn't imagine why any woman would want to be with someone like him.
However reading Grey, I absolutely love Christian now. I don't know what it is, but seeing everything through his eyes made me sympathetic toward him. I found him to be more charming and sexy this time around. Ana is also much more likable in this version. She seems mysterious, strong, sexy and lovable. Her annoying features pretty much disappeared for me.
In Fifty Shades of Grey their relationship never made sense to me. Ana always questioned everything and Christian spent most of his time annoyed with Ana and complaining. I couldn't understand why these two people were trying to make the relationship work. However in Grey, you really get to see how much Christian is obsessed with Ana and how much he truly cares about her. He hardly ever gets mad or annoyed with her. Their relationship is much more alluring in Grey and I found myself finally rooting for the two of them.
Overall I liked reading from Christian's perspective so much better then Ana's. So much so that I don't think I could ever go back to the original book. This is so much better to me.
If you loved the other books, I still think you'll love this novel as well! It really will make you fall in love with Christian.
The only thing I will note, the author made some baffling mistakes. Some of the lines from the first book are changed in this one. Maybe it's just an attempt to fix some of the issues people had with the first novel but it's still strange. I have to agree with others that it is a huge editing mistake and comes off as lazy.
While this book does not give much new material to the plot of 50 shades, it DOES provide insight into the mental state and the development of Christian Grey, letting the reader see what is happening in his mind. Insight into Christian's thought processes puts a different light on the overall story and I found it provided a fascinating view of his thinking, explaining his behaviors and his insecurities.
While some will find it is not interesting because it is not a continuation of the story, others who want a glimpse into Christian's development as much as Anastasia does will find it worth reading.

I think everyone knows the story of Ana and Christian, so a recap is unnecessary but it's the small details that left me breathless, like Christian's reaction to a 'x' in an email from Ana endeared me to this complicated man and his struggle to give Ana 'more' was insightful.
We finally get to understand a little about his relationship with ' Mrs Robinson' and his ex sub Leila which I really enjoyed and how Christian was able to successfully stalk Ana !
I very rarely reread books, so I was worried that this retelling would not hold my attention but it held it and captured it fully. I enjoyed reliving this groundbreaking book but from the other side, I laughed, I almost cried and I fell in love with an incredible love story all over again - just perfect
In Christian's own words, and through his thoughts, reflections, and dreams, E L James offers a fresh perspective on the love story that has enthralled millions of readers around the world.
