I have learned that if you print pretty infrequently, the ink will APPEAR to run out/dry up, making you think you need to buy another ink cartridge. DON'T DO THAT if the HP software still shows ink remaining. Just take out the cartridge, put some filtered or distilled water in a glass and heat for 30sec in the microwave, dip a lint-free cloth in there, and use it to gently clean the bottom part of the ink cartridge. You'll know you're done when you wipe the contacts and a little bit of ink comes out. Use a dry part of the cloth to get any remaining water off and you're good to go. (Yes this pretty much ruins the cloth but they're super cheap, and you can keep it near the printer in case it happens again.)
Taking off 1 star because to keep the ink flowing you have to manually clean the contacts (the auto clean doesn't do jack).
I am now on a quest, per some internet stranger, to obtain an expired HP 60 cartridge to try and use that instead. We shall see what that yields in the near future. But meanwhile, if you need an HP 60 (XL), stay away from whatever HP is kicking out of their factories right now. It's just a waste of money and HP should be ashamed of themselves (but then again, from what I've read, this is normal from HP).
But you know, that's the internet for you.
