Defective ink out of box (brand new)

What's the point of buying genuine HP ink if it doesn't work when it's brand new? I stopped buying HP printers over a decade ago when they started the ink over-pricing scam. Soon the other printer companies followed suit and now no one builds good printers with affordable ink, so I thought I'd give HP another try. When I bought the printer back in July 2020, I bought a back up set (from the HP store) knowing HP does not provide a lot of ink in the original printer. The printer worked fine for a few months and slowly ran out of cyan ink, so I replaced the cartridge today only to receive the notice above about a defective cartridge. BTW, i also swapped the Magenta and received no error, so it's not the package.If HP can't get the quality control of their own inks up to reasonable standard (it looks like I'm not the only one complaining about this) they need to stop spending money on fighting counterfeit cartridge companies and focus on their customers.Recommend you buy Brothers printers because my mom is happy with her printer so far (and we've replaced cartridges several times with no issues). Canon printers frustrated me in the past but not because of ink issues.I can't return it because it's been five months since I bought it. I can't even buy a cyan replacement because HP doesn't manufacture enough to keep their store or the retailers stocked let alone Amazon.
