How customer reviews and ratings work

Customer Reviews, including Product Star Ratings help customers to learn more about the product and decide whether it is the right product for them.

To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. Instead, our system considers things like how recent a review is and if the reviewer bought the item on Amazon. It also analyzed reviews to verify trustworthiness.

5.0 out of 5 starsGreat book!!
Reviewed in the United States on July 11, 2017
I chose a whopping 5 star rating for this book because I feel like this could help out so many other teens like me that are going through problems, but not only teens, this book could help anyone, really. I recommended this book to so of my adult friends (mom and dad friends) and they really seemed to like it, and I could really tell they are using what they learned in this book because they just seem more... well, happy! They seem to have a better grip on life and emotions. I truly recommend this book to anyone. Eighty years old but still having trouble in life? It's never too late to pick up this book! Maybe you are ten and wish you could escape from the real world but also get your life ready for whatever may happen? I can almost guarantee that this book is that you are looking for! As for some people that don't like to read but want a better life.. like the eighty and ten year olds, I suggest you read this book. Or since this is the 21st century, have a bot or something read this to you. As for the author of this book... thank you. Thank you for helping my grasp on life, my sight to beauty, my entire mindset, and my interactions to people of all types. Though the chance you read my comment is most likely one to many, I still thank you. And thank you to everyone who helped write and or make this book, your efforts will not be forgotten.

2.0 out of 5 starsNot as updated as it needs to be
Reviewed in the United States on March 23, 2019
This book arrived ripped and bent and looked more like a used book than new. I see from other reviews that other people have had the same issue, so just to let everyone know, the quality issue remains active.

Secondly some of the anecdotes in the book are not aging well even though this was just updated in 2014.

I did not like the references to dieting and weight loss in the beginning. I would have preferred the focus to be on health and healthy eating and not on a vanity metric... I'm not looking to give my teen a complex about food or appearance. Thankfully there seems to be just a few references and it's not a big portion of the book so far.

There is a pretty appalling anecdote about how black people need to stop saying they are being held back by racism. Given everything that's happened in the last 3 years or so, that's just not accurate or helpful or improving the conversation.

The the advice is generally helpful, but I suggest parents carefully read through the anecdotes and examples because a lot of it is pretty politically charged in my opinion.

5.0 out of 5 stars Equipping our kids to be all that they can be!

This book was referred to me by the Asperger Experts. My son has aspergers. He is highly intelligent and a sweet soul, but I needed something to help him to understand what makes a person effective/successful in life. As he matures and as he heads off to high school very soon, this book will be so very helpful to him. I feel it is a wonderful resource for parents and teachers to share with all teens. The world is big and coming at them so fast. Lets equip them in every way that we can. There is a workbook that you can purchase also. My son will be working through this (this year) as he starts the 8th grade. Thank you Sean Covey!

3.0 out of 5 stars This is not for kids

My 12-year-old son came to me crying after reading about rape. This is mature content. I thought I was buying something to help my teen organize his school work or chores, not learn about a girl's rape story. I just wish this was spelled out instead of passing it off as something a young teen can pick up and read.

4.0 out of 5 stars NICE TO ADD TO YOUR COLLECTION

The general ideas and concepts are only a positive addition to you or your teens life. We started reading this to our kids at 8 and 9 years old and having a general discussion on habits and behaviors discussed in the book. I share this book with whomever as a great starting point for teens trying to develop an active action plan based on what they want and are interested in, as well as assisting them in reflecting on what it is that they want and what do their current behaviors show that they really want. Great starting point. If your teen is not a reader or a little hesitant, get creative. Read a chapter a night or every few days as a family and discuss it. Be consistent with it, they will open up if you remain quiet and allow them to really think for themselves and freely share their thoughts with you as they try to figure out the life that they want to live for themselves.

5.0 out of 5 stars This is actually a funny story.

This is actually a funny story... I ordered this book because for some crazy reason the hardback was at a lower price than the paperback. So I was like, "SCORE!" then when the book arrived and it was only two inches tall, *facepalm* however, my teenager loved it! And still, gives me crap out not properly reading the description before purchasing the item!

5.0 out of 5 stars Could change the world if everyone applied its principles!

I cannot recommend this book enough, and not just for teens. The principles detailed in this book would be life-changing if you applied them (that's the hard part!) I am a Christian and I read it with a biblical worldview and still loved it. A lot of the problems I see in society today could be fixed if everyone took these habits to heart!

2.0 out of 5 stars Hard cover is miniature version
Reviewed in the United States on September 15, 2017

When I selected the hard cover version of this book, I did not realize it was a miniature version. It seemed like it was not clear that this version was different from the regular sized paper back book during the purchasing process, though the picture of the hard cover does say Miniature. Once I received this miniature book it was not worth the effort of sending back. If you intend to purchase the miniature version then this book is good quality but does not contain all the same information as the original, paperback edition.

Bought for my 14yo daughter but, my 12 year old son can't wait until he gets to read it too. Author speaks directly to teens and my son was hooked after I read him just a sample. Both kids aren't done reading the book yet so i can't say how effective it is but the fact that they both want to read it says alot about how well the author does in connecting with the younger generation.

1.0 out of 5 stars Racist!!! Do not buy!
Reviewed in the United States on September 21, 2021

I bought this book on the recommendation of my daughter's teacher. Imagine how appalled I was when literally the first page I flipped to upon receiving it is a diatribe against victim mentality that quotes an anecdote of a girl basically dismissing all racism and oppression as a factor in the lives of Black Americans. The book itself is disturbing enough, but for teachers to be using it?! Who is still allowing this trash to be published?

In terms of Amazon, they made the refund very easy with a returnless refund.
