The reason I loved the book so much was because of the female lead, Megan. The author created an amazing character with her. At times, I thought she was too good for Chase and should move on. What I liked is that in the end, she was willing to do that. She was willing to find somebody who was mature enough to love her back.
In spite of what a child Chase was, I liked their love story. I liked that they'd been friends for so long so that it made sense for them to fall in love. It was a little odd that he had never felt anything for her given their history. Then I reminded myself that he's a man-child and it made sense.
I was glad to see his growth through this book.
I found myself smiling through portions of the book (mostly whenever Megan one-upped Chase). I also rolled my eyes a couple of times at how ridiculous Chase acted. However, the ending left me feeling happy and with a tiny bit of a tear in my eye. Exactly what I'm looking for in a book, so it's 5-star rating for me. Barely...because of the man-child.
It is Leigh who schemes to have Megan and Chase as co-chairs serving on the fundraising committee to get money and manpower to clear the city’s playground, remove broken play equipment, install modern equipment and upgrade the playground area. Leigh rigs an auction that makes Megan and Chase winners of a weekend trip to San Antonio – a place where magic occurs. The couple return to Honey, TX and go their separate ways. Is the magic dead, temporary, or lasting? The story is worth reading to determine whether the love is mutual or remains unrequited.
