I loved reading the first two books in this series. The stories were spell binding, and I couldn't put them down. In addition, the main characters in each story were courageous people of strong moral character with very big hearts. The third book was eagerly awaited, and purchased at the substantial full price. Although also a good story, the first part of the book seemed a slow re-cap of the other two books, and did not hold my attention. Much to my disappointment, the bright young main character, turns out to be a much more sexually forward woman than the lady who raised her, and the readers are subject to some unwanted descriptions of her views and actions before even getting to page 100. These include receiving her mother's "gift" of birth control for a trip she will go on. Unfortunately, book lovers expect this type of writing when books are written about modern times. However, this type of blase treatment of immorality just does not fit in with historical fiction, and it made it much more difficult for me to enjoy the rest of the story. It's always a treat to read historical fiction where high morals are upheld, and always a disappointment when today's low standards are inserted into otherwise compelling historical fiction.
