A feel good movie.

I enjoyed this movie a lot. Sometimes it’s just nice to watch a feel good movie and that’s exactly what this is. Often these movies are ignored or given low ratings because they lack all the drama that we normally like to watch. I watched it on demand so so it didn’t cost me the price you would pay in the movie theater . I just sat back on Sunday afternoon and enjoyed it.

The first time I saw this film, I cried. This is the second time I saw this film and I still cried. Keanu Reeves plays the kind of coach that really believes in his plyers. Even though he had problems of his own, he eventually came to his senses and realized that sometimes you just got to do what you feel. Play the game you love, do the thing you love.

It's really sad when writers, producers and directors have to stoop so low to exploit today's youth with film rolls which include profanity, etc. It's hard enough to raise children to do be good upstanding moral individuals and the task is even more difficult for parents, family, and adult influences who have to battle with hollywood. This movie could have been produced with a cleaner script.

Keanu Reeves coaches an all black little league baseball team
Verified purchase
Keanu Reeves is a sports gambler in Chicago that takes a job coaching an all black kids baseball team for $500 a week to pay his sports betting debts .His kids are from the projects and that means it isnt safe to walk home alone .He meets a teacher of theirs ( Diane Ladd ) and starts sharpening up the team when tragedy strikes but life goes on It also shows how some poor teams uniforms are not as good as teams with money . Wonderfully played out and a tear jerker for me and probably for you too...

did you read the headline? it says "formulaic." this is a word that means "following a formula." for example, the usual female romcom formula that a woman, or the right existential predicament, can turn a sloppy and feckless romantic partner male into a moral hero. where is there a woman who doesn't believe that? well, there's my wife of 30+ years (because she has me to deal with) but other than that ... let's do a poll! ladies! do you think any man can be made into a better human being if you just put him in the right challenging situation? say, a compulsive gambler who is compelled in order to pay off his gamling debts to coach a baseball team of doughtly black kids in disenfranchised economic circumstances? raise your hands if you say "yes"! look at all those hands! ladies, we love you for your infinite confidence that the male half of humanity can be redeemed. now, how many of you ladies found this film enjoyable, watchable, believable, worthy of your time? oh, come on -- any? nobody? really ... nobody?

Lots of good stuff here

Good film. Underrated. Strives, mostly successfully, for realism in the projects. Good acting by Keanu Reeves. His character is unlikeable at first, and they really avoided making his transformation unbelievable--seemed to happen organically and through circumstances that were quite moving. Interesting the way the film portrays the way the white working class and underworld in the city still think they can look down on the black inhabitants of the projects. They walked a bit of a fine line with some racial stereotypes, as well as some cheesiness, but to my mind stayed mostly on the right side of things. Beautiful speech near the end, and most sports cliches avoided. Recommend; may show to my older kids after warning about the language, valuable reminder that many are not blessed with safe homes or involved and caring adults, and have to overcome many daunting obstacles just to "show up"

I think this is the best movie I have ever seen Keanu Reeves ever made. He should get the best actor award for this movie. I just might watch it again tomorrow; you all should watch it too.
THANK YOU FOR putting this movie on here.

i cant believe this is a five star movie.

I cant believe this is a five star movie. I only watched 10 minutes and I could not watch anymore, the audio was unprofessional. the photography was average. the acting was average, no real range of emotion. low budget production if it was not, then it is worse then I am saying.
