The Haunted Heist (Southern Ghost Hunter Mysteries Book 3) Kindle Edition
|New from||Used from|
From New York Times bestselling author Angie Fox
Just because she can see the dead doesn’t mean Verity Long wants to spend her days hunting ghosts. Instead, she’s over the moon to land a marketing job at the local bank…until she finds her new boss dead in the vault. Even her ghost friend, Frankie, knows that's no way to start a career.
Relieved to let the police take charge, Verity steps aside, bound and determined to keep her ghost sightings to herself. But when she learns the main suspect in the murder is a very crooked, very dead mobster, Verity knows it's up to her to solve the case.
She teams up with her ghostly gangster buddy Frankie, as well as the irresistible and charming Ellis, as the three of them search haunted mob hideouts, hidden passageways, and historic cemeteries for the facts behind the heist of the century—and a modern-day motive for murder.
Too bad uncovering the truth could very well make Verity the next victim...

In The Haunted Heist she seems to be finally getting a break, until tragedy strikes. When the possibility of ghostly interference seems likely, she has no choice but to try to get her ghostly acquaintances to help her get to the bottom of what happened.
As usual, the mystery in The Haunted Heist was just part of the story. Verity wasn’t sure what to do about her kinda, sorta relationship with Ellis – mainly because of the backlash from his family and the rest of the town. (Ellis wasn’t about to give up on her though.) She was also still trying to help free Frankie. As if that wasn’t enough, she found herself in search of a ghostly minister willing to perform a wedding. All of which kept the pages turning.
Next up in the Southern Ghost Hunter Mysteries is Deader Homes and Gardens and it’s already ready and waiting on my kindle. 😉
When Verity gets the chance to work with the local bank, she is excited about the opportunity until the man giving her the job ends up dead in the bank’s vault during their first meeting. When she figures out that a ghost may have some involvement, she knows that she needs to look into the case. The mystery kept me guessing and there were some developments that will impact future books in the series.
Tavia Gilbert is one of my favorite narrators and I think that she does a fantastic job with this series. I love the voices that she uses for Verity, Frankie, Ellis, and all of the other characters. I think that she is able to add a lot of emotion to her reading which really helps to bring the story to life. I am sure that her narration added to my overall enjoyment of this book.
I would definitely recommend this book to others. I really like all of the characters in this series and think that the paranormal element is very well done. I cannot wait to check out more of Verity’s adventures!
So who is this Frankie that has the power to take Verity Long into the supernatural? Why is she trying to free him and from what? These are just some of the fun questions that you can find the answers to by reading the Southern Ghost Hunter Mysteries Series. I will tell you that Frankie lives in a trash can and Verity lives in a house she inherited from her grandmother. But the fun part was learning how Frankie ended up in the trash can and why Verity is living in a house with no furnishings.
From the very first two books in this series - Southern Spirits and The Skeleton in the Closet, I found myself caught up in the suspense of a murder with a touch of humor. I've laughed at the very odd pet that lives with Verity and how Frankie tends to get her into trouble in a world that most would never dream of visiting. I feel for her as she struggles to make ends meet after her almost mother-in-law took everything away from her. I feel joy for her as her feelings for Ellis grow. And I hold my breath as she risks her own life to bring justice to those who need it. This is a series that I hope will never end and I'm really looking forward to reading Book 4 in the series - Deader Homes & Gardens.
Haunted Heist isn’t so much that different from the other two books but I just enjoyed it more because I have become really invested in the characters now. I really appreciate the value the author places on the ghost characters to give them a true place in the story. Angie Fox gives them as much time and detail as the living characters and it is nice to see the same ghosts return in each of the books. It makes the world of Sugarland, Tennessee a little bigger.
My favorite part of this book is that Verity finally made some decisions about her life and it was good to see her fighting a little harder to get back on her feet. I had felt in the last two books that she wasn’t really ready to pick up the pieces and move on but she seems to be on a good path now. It really gave the book a good strong ending.
I really like when the narrator for the series is consistent and Tavia Gilbert has really developed each of the characters in the Southern Spirits stories. Her characters are consistent and unique and her transitions between characters are exceptionally smooth. Tavia also does a very good job emoting a full range of feelings the characters are going through.

As you can tell by my 5 star rating, I really loved everything about this story and as a narrated book; it has everything that I look for in a 5 star story; I laughed, I cried, I was on the edge of my seat (I was even a bit scared at times), I was gripped! Murder, mystery, humour and a cute romance what more could a girl want! I was impressed with Tavia Gilbert's performance, I would definitely buy books narrated by her in the future; loving her tonal adjustments for the dialogue and the pace at which she read the story.
I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys ‘cozy mysteries’ with a paranormal focus. We get a sneaky teaser from the next book in the series Deader Homes & Gardens; which is already on my Kindle waiting patiently.

With the above note I still really enjoyed the story, with that combination of the paranormal, romance and humour that Angie does so well.
