Author/Founder of Quill & Crow Publishing House
Gothic horror writer and occasional dark goddess, Cassandra L. Thompson has been creating stories since she got her grubby little hands around a pen. Gothic horror writer and occasional dark goddess, Cassandra L. Thompson has been creating stories since she got her grubby little hands around a pen. When she is not busy managing a house full of feral children (human and canine), you can find her wandering around cemeteries, taking pictures of abandoned things, or in the library doing research on her latest obsession. Brad Acevedo writes under the behest of a mysterious presence that compels him to craft written nightmares. He first felt their grasp upon his mind at age 16 and since then has become a semi-willing pawn in distributing their literary horrors to the world.
When not under their influence, he can be found in the sun dappled dregs of Gulf Coast Florida, valiantly (futilely?) attempting to shield his wife from the shadows.
He dwells amongst a bevy of (thus far) inanimate and non sentient collectible vinyl monstrosities, critters and imps. When not writing he can often be found terrorizing the Florida theme parks and skulking around in the underbrush.
Maybe if he keeps writing, he can keep the shadows at bay...
Maybe...

Her favorite stories in recent years have been fantasy, but she still has a healthy love of vampires that started in high school when she discovered Bram Stoker and Anne Rice. She works as a freelance editor and assists with acquisitions for Quill and Crow Publishing House in addition to writing her own works of fiction. Tiffany lives in the American Northeast with her husband, three kids, and 2 cats. She finds solace in hiking through the beautiful forests that surround her home. Damon Barret Roe is the pen name for a 30-something author obsessed with all things horrific and fantastic. She has a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology that—in true millennial fashion—she has no intention of using. Instead, she hopes to make a successful career out of building worlds, writing stories, and spreading heebie-jeebies.
She works for Quill & Crow Publishing House as an associate editor and is the lead editor on the gothic literature e-zine, 'The Crow's Quill.' She has an editing credit for the gothic anthology 'Grimm & Dread.' She co-edited and -curated 'Eros & Thanatos: An Anthology of Death & Desire.' Her poetry was published in 'Crow Calls Volume 3.'
Damon is Latin American but was raised all over the world in a multicultural home. She channels this upbringing and her queer orientation in her writing, focusing on themes of equality and oppression.
Also, she really likes swearing.

However, I found myself wanting more from each story. I love and consume both horror and the gothic; I understand and appreciate how much time and effort the writers and publishers put into their work. I also look forward to new publications from this press. My favorite horror or horror-adjacent stories are ones that leave me unsettled—that linger in the corners of my mind and creep under my skin after I’ve set the book down. The pieces included in this anthology didn’t linger with me after completing them or leave me with the sense of dread I crave from horror/gothic literature. The stories contained lush descriptions and explored the darkness surrounding what it means to be haunted, but left me feeling unsatisfied. I still look forward to new material from Quill & Crow and will read more from them, but this particular collection didn’t resonate with me.
I received an advance review copy of Haunted: A Crow Showcase for free, and I'm leaving this honest review voluntarily.
Now, onto the matter. As I said I would have loved to say I liked these stories. But, sadly, they didn't work for me. As an avid horror reader, and a horror writer myself, there wasn't anything I haven't seen before. The stories didn't scare me. I feel the terror was overdone and I couldn't grasp the meaning of anything. Some had useless details, while others didn't make sense at all.
Sometimes I feel bad to roast books because as a writer myself, I know the hard effort we put into our words. It is the true essence of ourselves. But sadly this anthology didn't fulfill my expectations. What I did like though, is that before every story there is s poem concerning the main theme of the book: haunted. I enjoyed reading them and would have preferred a dark poetry book instead of a mixture of short stories and poetry.
In any collection there will be some stories better than others, but in this collection the range is from very good to are you kidding. One or two were amazingly written, a few were okay, but several read as if they were from a writing class that the writers had received an F.
This one gets two stars.

Of the fifteen stories featured, my personal favourite was A Gift and A Curse by K.R. Wieland, and my favourite poem of the bunch was graveyard sonnet by PS Conway. I thoroughly enjoyed everything that Haunted had to offer, but those two really shone for me.
Another blinding success for Quill & Crow Publishing House, I very much recommend if you've read any of their other anthologies!
