Crowford, a sleepy coastal town in the south of England, might seem like an oasis of calm and tranquility. Beneath the surface, however, dark secrets are waiting to claim fresh victims, and ghostly figures plot revenge.

Having finally decided to leave the hustle of London, Daisy and Richard Johnson buy two houses on Nelson Street, a picturesque street in the center of Crowford. One house is perfect and ready to move into, while the other is a fire-ravaged wreck that needs a lot of work. They figure they have plenty of time to work on the damaged house while Daisy recovers from a traumatic event.

Soon, they discover that the two houses share a common link to the past. Something awful once happened on Nelson Street, something that shook the town to its core. Before they can face Crowford's horrors, however, Daisy and Richard have to deal with the ghosts of their own recent history. What is Daisy hiding, and why does Richard feel strangely drawn to one of the town's oldest inhabitants?

The Haunting of Nelson Street is a ghost story about a young couple fighting for their future, and about a town trying to escape the clutches of its past.

As a series the Crowford books are pretty good. It's not horrific horror, but mostly spooky and supernatural. Most of the books manage to sustain an aura of creepiness. I like how all the stories and locations interact and yet each novel stands alone too. Most of the characters are interesting and the stories quite varied. Ms Cross's style is concise and she keeps a pretty good pace, without being overly flowery with the descriptive. Although it would be nice if she described the major players. Overall i do like her books, the stories and writing style.. My major gripe is not with the stories or writing but with the proofreading. I don't know if it's because the novels are self published or what, but there are numerous typos and plot mistakes that although they can be read over and ignored, do tend to grate.

I have now joined the village life in Crowford.
I thoroughly enjoyed the book, and as is my way, my brain started to think of how the book would end, before I'd barely started it. I never ever look to the last few pages to confirm or dispel my thoughts about how the story will unfold and again I was pleasantly surprised how this one ended.
I can't wait to start on #2 The Revenge Of The Mercy Belle. Ah wait, I have a good feeling, I know how this story will grow! Something to do with a ship me thinks.
Well written Amy, I've got the whole collection, so I will be kept quite busy.

Story set in England, with English characters, so why are they using US vocabulary? Books should be labelled when they are aimed at US market, then I could save buying books that I hate. If book is set in US, I expect it to have US spelling and vocab etc, but it ruins the book when US english is used for British characters set in UK.
