Now, a contest draws young elites to the city of Greenstone, competing for a grand prize. Jason must gather a band of companions if he is to stand a chance against the best the world has to offer.
While the young adventurers are caught up in competition, the city leaders deal with revelations of betrayal as a vast and terrible enemy is revealed. Although Jason seems uninvolved, he has unknowingly crossed the enemy’s path before. Friends and foes made along the way will lead him to cross it again as inevitable conflict looms.

About the author

Shirtaloon was working on a very boring academic paper when he realised that writing about an inter-dimensional kung fu wizard would be way more fun.

Customer Reviews, including Product Star Ratings help customers to learn more about the product and decide whether it is the right product for them.
To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. Instead, our system considers things like how recent a review is and if the reviewer bought the item on Amazon. It also analyzed reviews to verify trustworthiness.

By all accounts, this is a perfectly worded review. Unfortunately, some of our fellow readers are offended that I am not pouring my heart out and offering a detailed and intimate breakdown of my thoughts on the books. As such they have reported me to the authorities and I have been warned against continuing my bad behavior. I will not. So I may be banned. If so, it was a fun journey with you.
If I enjoy a book, my goal is to promote it and help the author by encouraging others to read it. I am not going to share my reasoning, thoughts on the book, or any opinions that would influence your decision to read it. I am simply saying that I liked it. I would like you to read it and make your own decision. After all, you are a much better judge of what you will like than anyone here.
As always, I am open to debates and arguments, but also vain enough to seek acknowledgement, so feel free to roast me or applaud my efforts. Either is acceptable, because if you are paying attention to me then you are at least considering the book. And THAT my friends is exactly why you see my comments here.
Cheers
I laughed more than once. Quite humorous. Pottery, anyone?
There was one chapter where the fact this was written as a serial was especially clear, as recently established facts were established again. Other than that one, most of the repetitiveness wasn’t as overt.
Pretty clean grammar, with a few typos but not a large amount for the size of the tome. Not terribly crunchy except a few scenes where new abilities were pretty much the point.
It does end on a cliffhanger, so be warned.
I really enjoy the world and the magic system. Looking forward to the next.
The critics of religion by the author are by in large not unjustified, but they never really goes into an individual basis of classification on religion, with one exception being the healer’s church. This person is apart of this religion so they must be this way. It’s a child’s argument and not an argument I can really get behind as I’ve seen people who believe what they are saying and desperately do their best versus those who use their beliefs as a cudgel to beat people over the head with. Jason is the latter.
I see this series going in 2 directions. Jason is either knocked so hard off his pedestal that he has to reevaluate what he believes and goes forward from there allowing them to evolve over time (like everybody else). Or, he doubles down on his smug assurance that he knows better than everyone. If it’s the former I would really enjoy that arc as despite our vastly differing views Jason is a hard worker and I would like to see that growth. If it’s the latter I will no longer continue reading this series. It’s pretty obvious that Jason has become the monsters he wished to fight in his old world. He’s unorthodox about it, but the tactics are the same. Off center your opponent with lies or misdirection, wait for a mistake, then capitalize on it. Doesn’t matter if you are correct or not, at least you won. And while winning a fight in an alley this way is fine, assuming you are the victim, living your life this way is not.
In closing, I hated/loved this series, but unless a change happens in the third book I won’t continue with this series. I realize I’m just one person and in the grand scheme it doesn’t matter what I think, but I’m writing this in the hope the author sees it and reads it. Maybe I’m in the wrong for my harsh criticisms, but I feel this series could be better if the author realized that changing oneself is not only easier than changing the world, but necessary to change the world.
I really enjoy the world building aspect of this work along with the character development. As far as the story goes, lm anxious to find out how the various threads of the story come together. I was sad when Cassandra caved to her fam, and some more interaction between Jason and her mom would have been good. However this opens the door for Sophie, who now compliments Jasons affliction abilities and is a badass in her own right. Team Jason has certainly leveled up and they will definitely need that to combat the evil silver-ranked assassin and his minions. Also looking forward to seeing the 2 crime bosses Ventress and Silva get put in their graves, along with Lucian Lamprey since they all plotted to do bad things to Sophie. Still waiting to see what the goddess of knowledge has to help Jason, since he's going to need lots of help with the church of purity Gestapos and the cult of the builder and their astral strip mining operations. Lets not forget that piece of dog turd Thadwick, while he's not a physical threat to Jason due to his incompetence, cowardice and delusions of grandeur; he needs to experience his own special place in hell. I am also interested in hookups for Belinda, Jory, Clive & Humphrey.
All in all, book 2 was an enjoyable and engaging follow up and l cant wait to read book 3 (and hopefully more). I loved the fact that its such a big book because it gets to go so much more in depth, which is why l prefer reading to TV and even movies (although they of course have their place). This was one of most engaging series I've read this year and I read alot. Sure there were some editing errors, but the story and the characters were what made the magic happen!
Top reviews from other countries

The rest of volume 2 is a great read, balancing an irreverent Aussie humour, the vulnerabilities and emotional trauma of being an outsider and never quite fitting in even before being summoned to a new world, and trying to be a hero when the incantations for the abilities in your skill set are sinister and evil, and your familiars are an apocalypse beast called Colin, an avatar of doom called Gordon, and the shadow of the astral entity that embodies death.
An excellent study of Machiavellian manipulation and intrigue.
The only issue I have, which is still nowhere near enough for me to think about knocking it down to 4 stars, is the post-editing proof reading. Spelling mistakes, missing words, extra words, auto-correct errors, and punctuation issues that meant it took quite some time to figure out why certain passages seemed wrong... Because the errors in some cases almost made grammatical sense but completely shifted the story, a bit like Great Uncle Robert suddenly coming out of the closet at the family Christmas party, at the age of 72.
Even with that, though, still a book I would definitely recommend and one that I will be reading again, for all of the humorous bits.

This entry moved a bit slower a focused more on the characters which was good to see, though I imagine it will eventually get difficult to keep track of all the new characters abilities so still would love to see them at the end of the book.
Having said that, no real complaints here. I'm loving this series and can't wait for the next book
