About the author

Shirtaloon was working on a very boring academic paper when he realised that writing about an inter-dimensional kung fu wizard would be way more fun.

This story was interesting in that we had the typical portal fantasy guy pulled over into another dimension. What happens after is often dark but humorous romp through a fantastical world that leaves you asking more questions than you would expect. I found myself randomly laughing out loud at certain points and other times sitting on the edge of the couch literally about to fall off as the sometimes the action got so intense.
My only detraction would be for the random love interest. One minute we see his first meet with our lovely lady, the next they are in full on relationship. Would have been nice to seen how rather than get “Oh, so that happened...”.
This book was awesome read, long in page count and full of characters unique enough that I honestly had to just write several paragraphs worth of a review. If nothing else, pick this up and follow this crazy Aussie for the laughs and thrills, I know I’ll be getting the second book the moment it hits the market.
I laughed out loud more than once.
Cultivation adjacent, but definitely more towards the LitRPG side. Not very crunchy, but a very interesting skill tree setup.
The was originally written as a serial and it does show occasionally in repeated descriptions between chapters. Still easily worth reading.
A few minor typos. Given the sheer size of the novel, it’s hardly worth noting.
Worth every penny and then some. This is what LitRPG should be.
The MC is insufferable though. It is not so bad in the beginning but it keep getting worse to the point I just gave up.
Please keep politics out of your fantasy.
Every weekday, I look forward to reading by the next chapter in this epic story. I'm at chapter 664 and I'm looking forward to re-reading the early adventures of Jason with his just the right amount of snark.
I would be quite surprised if anyone who purchased this book didn't enjoy it at least as much as I have.
Maybe its the gaming, mixed with my real life experience I have. But.. I'm not impressed so far. As a matter of fact I find myself groaning a lot at his choices. One of the only things he did, that was pretty good was he rescued some people a little later in the story.
.. So my reaction with this story, is the MC, spends WAY too much time, sucking on the broad end of a shovel & wallowing in his own vomit. (literally in the story, just read it trust me)
One thing I'll give about this story, is it has some unique twist on how the "World system" works... like the coins are used in a creative way.
*Update April 23rd* SO after finishing reading the book. I'd give it an OVERALL, emphasis on that word.. rating of 3 out of 5 stars. Things really take a huge leap, & even amongst those story elements.. a bit of romance comes RIGHT OUT OF LEFT field.. (I didn't see that coming!)
But by the end of this arc, the first book, I was enjoying it pretty good. But I will admit, things got REALLY hectic story wise. I understand the author was probably just trying to move things along & not bog the reader down in .. too much detail.
One thing you'll notice, is this story is ALL about connections. Their are so many story points, that start & loop back on themselves.. but, like a biscuit with 100 folds, that's enough, you don't have to go 1000 folds sometimes.
There is a certain plot element that happens with the branch adventure society. I TOTALLY did not see it coming. But quite frankly.. I wouldn't want to have seen it either way.. b/c so much was going on, it just added to the mess of the "story"... Uh, and then something happens to this other back ground character more or less, that I personally thought was a bad deal.. (It really came out of left field) I guess the author was too lazy to give them a good retirement, & instead took the easy way out. Execution by enemy.
And that ultimately leads to the higher rating. I initially gave this a 2 star rating.. but then raised it to 3. B/c OVER ALL , things could have went better story wise. But their was so much awesomeness that was going on, that the author managed to rain on some how, it leaves me with mixed feelings.
That being said I will be buying the next book in this series, already pre-ordered. I want to find out what happens. May 18th 2021 is coming in too slow.
Top reviews from other countries

The story is engaging, the characters are well fleshed out and the world building is excellent. I loved Jason as a character and it was nice to read a book where the main character in a portal fantasy isn't suddenly massively overpowered compared to everyone else. There was plenty of action and laugh out loud moments as well as plenty of unexpected twist and turns. I would definitely recommend giving it a go.
