Durable and true to size

I recently completed a curtain project where I cut all of the panels with scissors, which was super tedious! I'm currently repairing a quilt, and was looking for an easier way to cut large pieces of fabric. After reading rave reviews on quilting blogs about self healing PVC cutting mats and rotary cutters, I decided to invest in a set. Differences between sewing mats are apparently minimal, so I opted for this economical option.
The cutting mat arrived in perfect condition. I compared the markings to 2 rulers - both the inch and cm markings are true (pictured). As noted by some other reviewers, the markings only go to 11in x 17in. although the mat itself is 12in x 18in. This is actually shown in the advertising photos, so I don't think it's reason to deduct any stars.
I've been using this cutting mat with my Olfa rotary cutter - it's worth investing in a quality rotary cutter and blade! - for the last month. The cutting mat still looks like it's new.
In addition to squaring fabric, the cutting mat can be used for calibrating projected images. If you have a projector, you can project a PDF sewing pattern onto a flat surface, calibrate the zoom so that an inch in the PDF matches an inch in the projection, and either trace the pattern forgoing printing digital sewing patterns OR directly cut fabric if you project onto a cutting mat. I've only just started experimenting with this, so I'll update once I've completed a project this way.
