Things I loved:
-Tea is a ferocious MC, bursting with love and loyalty for her companions, love so strong she will literally do the impossible to shield them all from the evils of the world. She brings my black heart such joy.
-Tea's love life. All I can say is FI-NA-LLY!!!
-Fox's love life. ADORBS. Zombie-love goals. I can't.
-Khalad is the book's MVP, because even when everyone is all against Tea, all Khalad has to do is bat those pretty eyes, and everyone just concedes.
-Lihk was the most demure and shy and adorable Lady ever and every moment of Lihk was *chef's kiss*
-All the daeva scampering around Tea like gigantic puppies needing cuddles and treats <3
-All the crazy double crossing that I totally did not anticipate and OMG I'm reeling!
Things I did not like:
-Yo, why you gotta do my girl Mykkie like that?
-Kance, like, WTH bro?
-Okay, I really didn't have anything to dislike about this book, this is all pure lies, and my heart screaming in pain
I give this book 9 and a half stars. Leave me be, I need a moment to recuperate before starting Shadowglass...

One of this series’ big bonuses is the amazing settings, filled with various Asian inspirations, which is refreshing in a sea of ‘Medieval Europe’ Fantasy books.
It’s the same format as before with the main story as flashbacks with chapter dividers back to the present with tea talking to the Bard. I love these ominous flashforwards with the Bard, I want to know what happened, who died, why why why?! I really think they help build the anticipation and intrigue.
The characters are fantastic buts it’s the various relationships that really stand out, I love the sibling dynamic between Fox and Tea, the sort-of forbidden love between Fox and Inessa, Tea and Kalen’s slow burn romance, Likh’s crush, finding out about Khalan’s relationship with his father… Omg all the feels! Also THANK YOU Rin Chupeco for showing characters can just have crushes on other characters (and getting over them) without having to get together, declaring undying love etc etc
Nit picky points to attempt to give a balanced review:
I’m still a little confused with how the magic system/heart glasses works and I wish that the author had chosen names for 3 of the main male characters that were slightly more distinctive than Kance, Kalen and Khalad, oh and I could really do with sketches of the Daeva and I’m struggling to remember them except for 3 head dragon and toad like one!
Overall I loved this book and just torn between wanting to binge the third book right this minute and wanting to delay finishing this series too quickly! I’m not sure this review does this book justice, its difficult to say why but I loved it, I can agree with comments that the first book may have been a bit slow because of all the background/world building going on (I didn’t have a problem with it) but this book had none of that .
P.S I don’t usually read acknowledgments but Rin thanks Idris Elba (because he’s perfection) and now I love her twice as much!!!

Tea had no idea what she was doing in book one, but she slowly and gradually came into her powers. She has many friends and her brother by her side, whenever something goes wrong. And well, let's just say there are many things that go wrong. Some might even be Tea's fault but I like her; that she's with flaws and makes mistakes, then does everything in her power - and more - to fix things. She loves fiercely and will do anything to protect everyone.
Secrets are secrets no more. The long-awaited kiss between Tea and someone happens. The past and present switch continues in this one, as well, though at one point, Tea's need for revenge leaves everyone behind. Besides that certain someone I mentioned. Even dead, he won't leave her and oh, my heart!
Definitely better than book one. It took me a few days to finish it, practically inhaling it. 5 stars.

How about the fact I’ve been up for close to 28 hours now. Not cause of the book, I’d finished that a few days prior. But because I’ve just travelled home from my vacation in Ohio.
Future me maybe dont agree to things straight after your holiday (omg i have a book event tonight too oh no).
Anyway now we are done with my excuses for this incoherent rambling of pure love for this book!
Returning to Tea’s world was no chore. I fell back in easily and was instantly whisked away on her adventures.
I still adore the dual narrative/time setting that Rin uses throughout but I must say the present day intrigues me the most.
I love reading about Tea being very powerful and doing what she has too to prove everyone wrong and help put an end to some very nasty people but at what cost?
Though now I’m typing this I also really loved reading about Tea’s past as she expands her knowledge and with the help of Fox and her friends piece together the information they have to find out the truth about the sleeping sickness.
Another element that is really important in the past is that you start to see more examples of why Tea may have a black heart in the future. Its clear she’s not as strong against the dark any more, now she has the taste for it.
The character development is just *mwah* I LOVE IT.
I LOVE HER RELATIONSHIPS. FRIENDSHIPS. ALL OF IT.
For those of you who have read it will understand me when I tell you I was lay on my friends bed squealing whilst reading about certain thigh scars. And on the other end of things when certain three headed good boys are good.
(Meanwhile my friend is waiting to buy her copy of the book like Lauren will you shut up!!!)
((The answer was no))
As always I loved reading about the daeva, the variety of runes, and the faceless.
I truly can not wait for book three because I can already tell its going to ruin me.
P.S. Lihk has stolen my heart.

Super recomendo!
