The Hell Divers Series
A Postapocalyptic Earth
Two hundred and fifty years after World War III went nuclear, the surface of the planet is still uninhabitable. Devastating weapons left behind a barren, radioactive wasteland. Electrical storms block out the sun, and cities have been reclaimed by nature. No one remembers how the war started, or why, but the survivors living in the sky have seen the aftermath and know the truth—there’s no returning to the surface any time soon.
“If this was turned into a movie, I’d be there on opening night.” — Scott Sigler, New York Times bestselling author
What remains of humankind exists on two massive flying airships: the Hive and Ares. The ships circle the globe, the crews tirelessly searching for areas to raid on the ground and holding out hope that someday they will find a habitable place to set down.
Betrayal and sacrifice in the skies...
On the Hive, there is tension among the lower decks, where the passengers face starvation and disease. A militia is tasked with keeping order, but growing unrest threatens the fragile peace.
The Hell Divers
They dive so humanity survives...
Hell Divers are the courageous few that accept the dangerous duty of sky diving to the surface, where they search for the parts essential to keeping their floating homes in the air. After diving twenty thousand feet through electrical storms, they face further danger as they navigate the deadly ruins of civilization, in order to save what’s left of humanity and recover fuel so desperately needed by the airships.
The surface is a deadly place, but the Hell Divers think they are trained for anything—until they encounter a threat no one has survived to describe. In a race against time, the Hell Diver teams must fight their way across the surface and uncover mysteries from the past. The very future of the human race will depend on their bravery.

The Hive is a massive airship that is well over 260 years old. Unfortunately it is a wreck because of its age and the shortage of fuel and spare parts. The new generation of Hell Divers still risk their lives to help humanity live. The new Captain, Leon Jordan, is hiding secrets from the entire crew. The previous Captain shared them with him before she died. Jordan will do anything to hide the truth from the crew and passengers of the Hive. He will kill and even sacrifice his most valuable and loyal crewmen. He believes that only he knows the way for the people on the Hive to survive, but what if he is wrong?
The Hell Divers are sent to the ground on an impossible mission with little chance of surviving. They have to face mutant killer species, a deadly environment and carnivorous plants. They discover what really caused the mutants and a possible way to survive. They also know that they have been tricked and sent out to die by Captain Jordan. The only problem is that they have to get back to the Hive before they all die or else they can't share the truth……..
This is an excellent book. It is action filled and I loved the way the story is told and how the characters are developed. Nicholas Smith has become a top class author and I like his writing a lot. I have purchased all of his books on Amazon an I highly recommend them all to you. This new series of Hell Divers is especially well written and I rated this story at five stars. It is full of action.
This is an excellent series and you will enjoy reading it.
This is book 2 of the series and book 3 will be released soon. This is a great post apocalyptic story with a lot of action and I enjoyed reading it! What makes this story good is the great characters that are developed in the story. In addition the dangers in doing their jobs as hell divers are spectacularly described in horrifying detail. The author's imagination is fully engaged and he creates some of the most horrific monsters and living plants. They will keep you awake at night and reading!
What I enjoy is that the heroes of this story jump into a literal hell on Earth to gather things so the few surviving humans can continue to live! Their missions are life saving providing power, medicine and spare parts to keep their aging craft flying. It is the dangers they face and the horrors that exist on the surface of the earth that makes this story entertaining and fun to read.
I feel that this is an excellent story and Nicholas Smith is one of the best new authors on Amazon.
So here we are 10 years after the events of book 1 and right from the first chapters some items will become crystal clear: a) you will like something very much and b) this is not your typical "good guys killing monsters that want to take over the world" kind of book.
The complexities of book 2 follow an interesting path. The villain is complex and not completely filled with unreasonable malice which makes one pause and consider their actions if they were part of those circumstances. Yet, in a masterful way, NSS does not pause on the action making this a quick page turner.
Coming into the series rather late, I was able to go from book 2 to book 3 which is the very much recommended course of action here. It appears that while book 1 could have been self-contained, the rest of the books are picking up the pace even more and create an epic story told on the scorched surface a post-apocalyptic Earth.
Now, in book two, we have a captain that is keeping secrets, a crew that does not trust anyone, a new disease ravaging the lower decks all while the ship is failing. We watch as the divers’ struggle being caught in the middle of the crew and the passengers. While they struggle to survive on the planet against the blood thirsty mutants that live on the surface. Plus we finally learn the origin of said monsters as well…..
Another homerun by Nick Smith. I loved this book. Learning the origin of the monsters and the fate of X really kept me intrigued. I also loved watching the relationships develop and crumble amongst the crew. For anyone who likes the 100 or any post-apocalyptic struggle to survive will love this book! If you are into audio books make sure to check it out on Audible! RC Bray does an AWESOME job bringing all of the characters to life

Originally a trilogy, but that gladly was not enough, as the story grows we fight several new adversaries, find new apocalyptic locations and creatures. Flora and fauna don't really follow an evolutionary path which is my only gripe.
