In the fourth installment of the Hell Divers series, the Sea Wolf sets out to search for the Metal Islands. Leading the expedition is legendary Hell Diver Xavier Rodriguez. After enduring for a decade on the poisoned surface, his survival skills will be put to the test on the dangerous open seas.
But storms, sea monsters, and the cannibalistic Cazadores aren’t the only threat to X and his small crew. Their mission will uncover hard truths about the history of the war that left humankind stranded in the air for centuries. And the fate of those still living on the airships might very well rest on this fragile and perilous journey to find a new home.

A Postapocalyptic EarthTwo hundred and fifty years after World War III went nuclear, the surface of the planet is still uninhabitable. Devastating weapons left behind a barren, radioactive wasteland. Electrical storms block out the sun, and cities have been reclaimed by nature. No one remembers how the war started, or why, but the survivors living in the sky have seen the aftermath and know the truth—there’s no returning to the surface any time soon. “If this was turned into a movie, I’d be there on opening night.” — Scott Sigler, New York Times bestselling author |
The AirshipsWhat remains of humankind exists on two massive flying airships: the Hive and Ares. The ships circle the globe, the crews tirelessly searching for areas to raid on the ground and holding out hope that someday they will find a habitable place to set down. Betrayal and sacrifice in the skies... On the Hive, there is tension among the lower decks, where the passengers face starvation and disease. A militia is tasked with keeping order, but growing unrest threatens the fragile peace. |
The Hell DiversThey dive so humanity survives... Hell Divers are the courageous few that accept the dangerous duty of sky diving to the surface, where they search for the parts essential to keeping their floating homes in the air. After diving twenty thousand feet through electrical storms, they face further danger as they navigate the deadly ruins of civilization, in order to save what’s left of humanity and recover fuel so desperately needed by the airships. The surface is a deadly place, but the Hell Divers think they are trained for anything—until they encounter a threat no one has survived to describe. In a race against time, the Hell Diver teams must fight their way across the surface and uncover mysteries from the past. The very future of the human race will depend on their bravery. “I couldn’t stop reading.” — Orson Scott Card, New York Times bestselling author |

Editorial Reviews
Review
''Good lord was this book fantastic...I'm a big fan of 'deep sea thrillers,' and Wolves took some of my favorite elements from these books and threw them into a world decimated by bombs and left to thrive and evolve on its own...I've never had characters jump off the page more than when I was reading the Hell Divers series, and Wolves was no different...[And] throw in R. C. Bray's (audiobook) performance and you have what could be one of my top three books of 2018.'' --Briansbookblog.com (5 stars) --This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title.

The "Hive", last of the mighty floating airships that had sheltered humanity for a quarter-millenium, was now joined to the "Deliverance", an airship like the"Hive", slightly smaller, capable of everything the "Hive" was plus it could land on the surface safely. The "Deliverance", when attached to the "Hive", helped keep it afloat.
The Metal Islands, home to the Cazadores, were located near the Virgin Islands. The Metal Islands floated in a huge patch of clear, sunny skies. No radiation or poisonous atmosphere bothered the inhabitants and the Islands grew several fruits and vegetables to supplement their cannibal diet.
In spite of X's wishes, Katrina and the newest rookie divers, dove to the surface to inspect a top secret military installation off the coast of Cuba, code-named Red Sphere. Hoping to find weapons and supplies for an assault on the Cazadores' Metal Islands. The expedition didn't go exactly as planned. When do they ever?
A terrifying dystopian future provides an amazing storyline and characters you can immediately fall in love with, or growl and spit every time their names are printed. We've lived with and fought beside these actors, dove through forked lightning and crashing thunder. They're well known and much loved (some of them). The story keeps your pulse racing and your tired eyes wide with excitement. This is a terrific read! Don't take my word for it! Grab a copy and see for yourself!
First of all, if you haven't read the first three books in this series, you really should. NOTE: There might be minor plot spoilers in this review.
This was another excellent addition to the continuing saga of the Hell Divers and surviving humanity.
It is 260+ years in the future after the catastrophic World War III. Xavier "X", Miles the husky dog, and Mags set sail following up on the rumors of the Metal Islands. Mags is still mourning the loss of Rodger "Dodger" in book three.
Both the HIVE and the DELIVERANCE airships are now being used as homes for surviving humanity and are now led by Katrina, the new Captain.
The story continues with excitement leading the way through the pages of the story. Humanity now has some hope for better days in the future but the hope doesn't come without loss.
I loved this installment as much as previous books. Author Smith has a very real talent for drawing readers into his stories. Excitement, battles, Hell Divers, horrific foes, and even surprises are in this book.
I received an advanced reading copy of this book from Blackstone Publishing in the hopes that I would read it and leave an unbiased review. I also have pre-ordered the book (as always) because this is an author I definitely want to support.
Xavier X, Mags and his dog named Miles are sailing on a boat named Sea Wolf. They are looking for the rumored metal islands where a virtual paradise is said to exist. Giant mutant sea creatures want to eat them and terrible storms try to destroy their ship. They are sending back radio reports to the airships but it is clear that they are barely surviving.
The airships are coming to rescue them but they themselves send Hell Divers onto an island that looks truly like hell. No place is safe but they cannot give up. They are the last chance that humanity will survive……
This is an excellent book. I couldn’t put it down as it was full of action and I love the characters. I have read all of the books of this series and I highly recommend that you do too.
I believe that Nicholas Sansbury Smith is one of the best new authors around and I enjoy reading his books. He is knowledgeable in technology and he uses his background in Homeland Security and Emergency Management to make his stories intense with action and adventure.
This is an excellent book and I enjoyed it. I highly recommend this book as one that you will enjoy reading!

Following hot on the heels of the third book, this one joins Xavier Rodriquez and Magnolia in their search for the Metal Islands (and just what are those, one might wonder). But all is not plain sailing by any means. The oceans bring new dangers, not least rogue waves.
In the meantime, up on Deliverance, Captain DaVita must fight through her own demons and doubts to lead her ship, and the Hive to safety. But new revelations about humanity's past threaten their fragile existence and, as with all plans in this post-apocalyptic future, every decision comes at a price.
Though I didn't find this quite as gripping as previous books in the series (due to my own reading-related pressures at the time of reading), like the other three books it went down very smoothly, which in itself is a feat that Smith accomplishes with aplomb. The writing drew me immediately into the world of X and the rest, and it was easy to slip in and be taken along for the ride with no distractions.
If you haven't, go and pick up HD1 because this series is one helluva ride. I cannot wait for HD5, because... goodness me. I have no idea how this'll pan out.

I would love to see these on the big screen.
I won't put any spoilers in my review, suffice to say that you really should give these books a go, post apocalyptic stories this good are few and far between!
