Agent Kit Morris. Has a nice ring, doesn't it? It's a big step up from "wanted criminal" or "that weird con-artist guy with weirder psychic powers", both of which recently applied to me. But my promotion to MagiPol agent comes with a few drawbacks.
First, supremely talented and effortlessly gorgeous Agent Lienna Shen won't agree to a dinner date with me. Second, my new assignment has pitted me against a guild with very bad taste in pets. Third, those pets are demons, and those demons want to kill me.
My psychic magic is great for conning people. It doesn't do jack shit against hellish orcs. If I screw this up, my dinner date will be with a demon - and I'll be the dinner. Even better, I kind of suspect this supposedly straightforward assignment is actually the tip of an unholy iceberg of power-hungry malefactors bent on destroying all law and order in the city.
I should probably mention that last part to my boss.

Kit is amazing, he is so real. What I love about him the most is that he is a hunk, he knows it but he doesn't flaunt it. He is so enraptured by Lienna he forgets his lines :))) He is self-conscious, he knows his flaws, he knows his strengths, he can laugh at himself, and of course at others expense. After all he is a reformed rebel, and he doesn't forget his roots.
Lienna is perfect for him, she complements his personality to a t. She keeps him grounded, but aside from this she is amazing all on her own. A total bad ass chick. What I hope is that she surpasses her shyness about a relationship with her partner.
The plot was so entertaining and it is very well interwoven with the other series in the Guild Codex universe (Spellbound and Demonized).
I can't wait for more, as always when it comes to AM.
Side note: As a reader, I prefer reading print for my fiction and absorbing non-fiction through a dual combo of audio with a print version beside me to highlight notes. That being said, audio books are safer when driving so I've now listened to several audio versions of the Codex series' and I have to say - the "Warped" series gains something through the audio version.
I'm unsure if it's the voice actor himself that adds the additional dimension of humor or if hearing the tone/inflection in the reading just brought it out more for me; either way, I may have quietly smiled at a couple jokes in the book but I laughed aloud at hearing those same jokes in the audio versions. I'll likely just go straight to audio for the third in the series.
Now onto the Book
I loved watching Kit and Lienna question themselves and still never skip a beat when it’s time to step up. Watching them grow as partners is very well done. This is a pretty action packed installment. There truly isn’t a dull moment and I loved every minute of it! The warped series works so well because we get a lot of the behind the scenes and the in-betweens of what’s going on outside our knowledge during the other series. When all the Guild codex spinoff series are finished I’m definitely going to read them in the order Annette suggests- again it’s just a suggestion and not necessarily- as I know that I am going to find that I missed so much without realize the importance they play in the other series. Can’t wait for next!
When he decides to help fellow agent (and friend) Lienna Shen out, the two of them find themselves going up against some rogues and a few demons…
Set about six months after the first book in this spinoff series, and somewhere after book four of the Spellbound series, and book 1 of the Demonized series (the author’s website has a reading order), this story deals a little with some of the issues raised in the demonized book.
There are a few crossovers with the other series, but this could essily be read as a standalone series (though not as a standalone book).
Its just as entertaining and absorbing as the other series, with interesting characters, and an enjoyable story. While Lienna starts out weak, and ends strong, Kit himself has a bit of a crisis of confidence, that brings him out of his arrogant shell a little.
Its a good series, well worth reading for the Urban Fantasy fan.
Whenever you grab a book, you want a new story.
This was a retelling of part of the bigger story, like a side character, instead of a new story.
Was is interesting? Yes
Was it new an engaging? No
Kit is an awesome character to be wasted on a side story, it will be like James Bond acting a part in a Marvel film: interesting but not really what we expected or wanted.
The timeline and story for what already happened in the Guild Codex Universe is done, tell us something different, no more side stories.

Kit is learning to become a MPD agent but things don't go as expected first there are exams to pass and while trying to help his partner agent Shen Lienna hell break loose quite litteraly.
First assignment is more than he can chew....so while trying to survive he startes doubting himself more and more, his talents are for deception not offensive attack...killing is not what he wants to do...he can hide behind funny remarks and film references but deep down he is hurting.
I really loved to see deeper into Kit Morris ' mind...he is courageous and attentive to others.
Lieanna is a great agent but she is hiding things from her partner ....slowly opening her heart to him while action push her in her last retrenchment as lifes are on the line.
She is a great character, her justice want is really strong and it's interesting to see her making compromises for Kit.
i absolutely dislike captain Blythe their boss.
This story could work as a stand alone since it's so well written....we get to see the point of view of Kit it's a real page turner with non stop action, attacks making the investigation more dangerous and the tension building gradually. i simply loved it and i do remend this series. If you have read the guild codex series spellbound and demonized you will see characters you loved and you will get another point of view of some events that happened in those series so it's really great. However if you are new to this series it's so well written that you won't feel like you are missing anything, you won't understand some references perhaps but you will be immersed in a great story just making you want more.
