Love or Revenge?

Her Mercenary is such a fabulous book with a wonderfully crafted storyline that sucks you in and won't let you go until "The End". Roman is such a complex character who is agonizingly being torn throughout between love and revenge. McKinney does an amazing job, as usual, taking you on a roller coaster ride of twist and turns that inevitably leads to me being completely blindsided when all is revealed. Her writing has a way of always leaving you with your jaw dropped and Her Mercenary is no different. I loved everything about this book!! It's a must read!

To be completely transparent, I received an ARC with the promise that I would review the book honestly. I find the reviews a little difficult to write. I never want to give the story away with spoilers that might ruin someone’s reading experience. This book has it all.

Intrigue and suspense that is gripping and rattles your soul. You will feel emotions that you didn't know that you were capable of. You will feel fear, despair, joy, apprehension, sorrow, and compassion. Some of which you will feel for you and not the protagonists. With all those emotions, you will be compelled to finish the book. Knowing the outcome becomes an imperative. I had to finish the book.

I have read the book twice. I will read it once more. The first time, I went back to re-read passages where I was sure that I had missed something. Amanda writes as if we should be able to see the movie in our head as the story progresses. As I read, I was running that movie in my head. The descriptions are so vivid that you are anticipating the next move, conversation, comment, and scene.

This book will easily compete in the world of David Baldacci, Lee Childs, and others. It is that good. Buy it. I received an ARC but have also purchased the book. It is worth the investment to keep it in my library supporting an author that I believe is at the top of her game with this book.

Read and enjoy. It is worth 10 stars.

Amanda McKinney writes books that are hard to put down. They are filled with romance and suspense. This new series has Roman who is a man focused on a mission of revenge. He is deadly in his pursuit of justice for his mother and the weak. Sam is a school teacher who finds herself in a nightmare situation and needs to be rescued. The story is action packed and emotional. Both characters are strong willed and determined to survive without giving in. It is a powerful story with a very happy ending.

Her Mercenary is an action packed protector romance. The story takes place with the underbelly of society as backdrop.
The author does well to place the reader in the midst of the angst and action, while weaving the emotional reactions of our main characters into the fabric of the story. In Roman, we have an Hwith a lot of baggage, and going rogue at the start of the book has the reader unsure as to his true motivation. Will he save our h, Sam, or will his need for revenge win? It is Sam's inherent light and goodness that pulls the two together.
As always, the author's prose is descriptive and this book has action and twists I did not see coming. A deserved HEA for our couple who have to fight through dark and intense situations both physically and mentally.

I was only able to get through 25% of this book. For me way too much realistic knowledge of human trafficking.
I’ve enjoyed reading other books by Amanda McKinney , but this one was too violent and depressing for me to finish.
Absolutely not a bit of romance in first 25% of story, it’s possible story got better as it went on . Advertised as “ Romantic Thriller “ , but no romance seen so far.
Unfortunately, for me tone was set and no desire to finish book.

Yikes! Her Mercenary is a spectacular romantic suspense by Amanda McKinney. Ms. McKinney has once again provided readers with a book that is well-written and populated with perfectly imperfect characters. I am not a fan of first-person, alternating point-of-view books, and I avoid them. If you're like me and avoid them, make this author an exception to the rule. I don't even notice it in her books. Roman witnessed his mother's murder and he killed one of the men that killed her. Thirty years later he's working for Astor Stone, Inc. and looking for a woman that was kidnapped. Sam lives a normal life, teaching school and just being a decent person. When she's kidnapped she's confused and fearful. Roman and Sam's story is packed with drama, humor, spice, action and suspense. This book kept me on the edge of my seat from start to finish. I can't wait for my next book by Amanda McKinney. Her Mercenary is part of the Steel Shadows Mercenaries Series but can be read as a standalone. This is a complete book, not a cliffhanger.

Roman is thrust into a life he didn't deserve and Sam is taken to be used as a pawn in a psychopaths 30 year game of chess, that has proven deadly to many.
There is the expected danger, deceit, betrayal and torture but there is also a twist nobody see's coming and a revelation that brings Roman crashing to his knees.
Will revenge kill him or can Sam show Roman another path, one which also promises redemption and a future.....together.
