This stand-alone is easy to follow but difficult to read due to emotions evoked. No editing errors or drag-you-down drama.
There is graphic abuse and violence.

This storyline is compelling and depressing. Realistic procedures, actions and reactions. Believable dialogue and characters with distinct personalities.

This story is a good example of nature versus nurture and the differences between sociopaths and psychopaths.

No desire to re-read this story. I am always interested with in works by this author.

The shocking twists just keep coming

Lisa Regan is that author whose works I wished I had read slowly. She crafts each word, each paragraph and each page with precision. But her stories move quickly, and I want nothing more than to learn all there is to know. Right now. Dammit! "Her Mother's Grave," the third outing with Josie Quinn, who rose to police chief in her little community after uncovering a ghastly sex ring. This novel starts to uncover who Josie is and what made her such a basket case. Josie doesn't like introspection. She's happier ignoring her past. But Regan, a master storyteller, decides she's let Josie let the past lie long enough. Some kids unearth bones that have something to say, and their history pulls Josie into the deep end of a mystery that played out when she was a kid in the same trailer park where the boys found the bones. Josie's got to learn more and remember more about her past than she has ever done. What before was too painful is necessary to figure out the case. She has to dig into it no matter what the stakes or who the truth hurts. And it appears the one who will be damaged the most by the revelations is Josie. Regan unearths twists and turns. I must have been sweating when I consumed this in a couple sittings. Then I wanted more. I had to tell my wife and adult son what was going on inside the pages I read because it was just that intense.

“Toxic Mothers”

Oh, wow! Now we find out why Josie is not exactly likable and her emotions are all over the place crazy! Don’t worry, I think this story stands alone okay, as the author will give you some backstory. However, read Books 1 and 2 first if you really want to understand this complicated character. In Book 3, “Her Mother’s Grave”, Author Lisa Regan, uses different chapters to tell the reader the story of Josie’s life from 6 yeas old, through different ages as a child, always coming back to present time, 30 years old. The chapters are carefully marked; it is well-done, and not confusing. It does increase the tension and suspense, though, which just makes the reader want to keep reading till the end!

When a body is found and identified as Belinda Rose, the same name as Josie’s mother, this starts a roller-coaster-ride of uncertainty and excitement that just keeps coming. Sometimes when life is tough, the person either breaks or just gets tougher. Josie does not give up; like ripples in a pond, one murder leads to one mysterious event after another. Josie is now the Police Chief of medium size town of Denton, PA., and her team is the same as in the past books. Wonderfully skilled Detective Gretchen Palmer and Lieutenant Noah (mmm) Fraley help Josie solve the crimes. This is a great police procedural with lots of surprises and twists. A very entertaining read!

This book is phenomenal. The storyline is full of twists and turns. I love how Lisa Regan is able to take a part from the first book and use this in her third one to connect the whole storyline. I am happy that Josie is finally starting to get her life together a bit more. it seems the next book will be one for her to put her life back together and repair her flaws as a human. she has had a very trouble some and traumatic life so far, from her childhood and her mother, to her first marriage, and now her fiancé. It seems this woman could not catch a break from stuff ruining the good things she was supposed to enjoy. Again, the dialog is easy to follow and makes the reader feel more engaged with what is actually happening in the story. I enjoy the minimal amount of description when describing a scene or characters. Lisa Regan does a great job at setting the stage for the reader and giving an understanding of what it looks like and what is happening without taking an entire page or two doing it. There is some dramatic effect that some might not like, but I think it is what ties the story together and makes it more intriguing.

WOW!!!!! Now that was one of the best mysteries I've ever read. It had everything you could want. Loaded with questions to be solved, a group of characters that were phenomenal, persons you could love or hate as you delved deeper to see if they could be trusted. For Josie to go through all that she did, not only in the first two books, but in this book where it was over the top filled with twists and turns.

You must read all three books in this series. Just know the last book will blow your mind. I am definitely a Lisa Regan fan from this series forward. You won't be disappointed, but you will want to read another of her books. Enjoy!!

I like to believe things like in this story do not exist. While reading and putting some of the people I have seen in mind, I suspect more of this is happening. This is a great story that I could not imagine where it was going, probably not for people who would be upset by domestic violence, child kidnapping, child molesting, drugs, arson and the like. I enjoyed reading it for the suspense and the insight to some of the psocologic battles some people fight daily. Thanks, Lisa.

Gripping From Beginning to End

I learnt so much more than I imagined I would about Josie in this book. All the theories I had from the first two books fell at the wayside at the past that was presented to me. It made my feelings for Josie grow stronger and allowed me to see where this controlling determined desire comes from and just what exactly happened in her past to make her the police officer she was now. It also afforded me a chance to see her vulnerable side in a way that hasn’t been seen in the first two novels. I was surprised that Josie had the ability to let others into her life and past and that she was able to let others look after her and essentially take the control from her. From the first two books I wondered if I would get the chance to see this side of her, so when it was present here I was overjoyed that she was able to feel something that she had missed out on before.

Those secondary characters are slowly creeping up to main characters and I love it! I love that as Josie grows, the characters around her grow and change as well.

Again, I started reading this off the back of the second book because the second book ended in a cliffhanger type of way without really being a cliffhanger. I was desperate to read on and couldn’t take a break from the series when so much was up in the air. I had no issue with visualising the characters or the scenes and could clearly see the interaction between the two. My visualisation of things definitely got more detailed in this book as pasts were explored and I got to see more of the characters and how they interacted with each other.

I did work out the correct ending before it was revealed to me but I was only maybe a couple of pages away from the reveal, so I don’t think this failed in any way. I was surprised by how overjoyed I felt about the ending and how my opinion of the characters involved changed. I think it’s pretty clear now that I’m head over heels in love with this series but I did find this addition to the series more gripping and nail-biting and I think that’s because I was so eager to learn about Josie’s past and understand how she became the person she is in the present.

This instalment really packs a punch, I like that we find out more about Josie and why she rarely lets anyone in.

Josie joins her team at the scene of human bones being discovered, the one drawback is where she has to go, the bones are discovered at the trailer park where her nightmare life began, how will Josie cope?

The identity of the woman bears a chilling connection to her so called monster of a mother and her mother is not working alone.

This case sees Josie facing her demons and the lengths people go to keep their secrets buried and we also see the heartbreak and the fallout and there is more to come….. roll on the next instalment…..

An outstanding read!! Loved the blurb for this book and thought it sounded good. It doesnt do it justice! A fantastic and believable storyline. I loved the character Josie Quinn and hated her vile and sadistic mother with a passion. Well written and full of twists and turns with a heart thumping ending.
If I had read Lisa Regans previous book it would of given me answers to a few questions I had but on saying that it did not take anything away from the story and is a book I will definatèly read in the future.
Excellent from start to finish.

Ok. Now I’m addicted to Lisa Regan books. This is a third one I just finished. My only issue is, please ms Regan, train Josie in future books bit better, because so far every time she physically encounters the bad guys, she looses. Also, please send her for some form of counselling to help her overcome or accept her past. For future readers: highly recommend these books. Can’t wait to start next one.
