I liked the main characters, and though the heroine was a bit too much of a pushover early on, she grew a spine and boy did she shine! The guy was rich and lonely and definitely swoon worthy. He was alpha without being a jerk or mean which I appreciate. I loved how they both came from different money situations, but they were so much alike -- both lonely and needing love.
I wanted to shove the antagonists off the boat without life preservers. They were dealt with, though I could have gone with a little more 'pain' in their direction, but oh well, the story was sweet and clean. :P
This is the first book I've read by the author and I liked it so much, I'm going to get another. So I definitely recommend it.
Only downside: Right now the author only has the one book! Waah! I hope she writes more soon.
The main characters are likeable, responsible people and there are some really sweet scenes where they are sensitive enough to the needs of the other to stand up for and defend one another at different points in the story.
The ‘villians’ were a bit extreme, but not unbelievably so, and the revelations given over the course of the book help the heroine overcome insecurities that had built up over years and allow her to experience true friendship and true love.
I liked that the heroine was willing to sacrifice her happiness in an, albeit misguided, attempt to protect the hero.
Addendum: I just listened to this on audiobook. It’s read by Lauren Ezzo. It’s even better as an audiobook! Ms. Ezzo has decent voices and excellent enunciation. (Strangely enough, her enunciation takes a bit of getting used to, it’s so good that it can be a tad distracting. But her timing is excellent, she’s not afraid to pause - - she doesn’t rush and I like that in a narrator.)
*poor, **ok, ***good, ****very good, *****something special
The cruise aspect wasn't used as much as I'd hoped, but it did serve as a nice backdrop. Mostly, what made this book (other than the interactions between Tristan and Belle - so cute!) was the fact that there was actual growth of character involved. I'd feared a "doormat saved by love" story, but it turned into more of a "doormat discovers she's worth loving and acts accordingly" story - which just hits all the rights buttons for me!
I also appreciated the fact that it was a clean romance (even labeled as such by the series name!). Not that I mind a bit of erotica, but it was refreshing to have a couple who didn't just jump into bed at the first available chance.
I don't always read romance novels, but when I do, I like them to be this adorable :-D
Belle Evans has had one loss or betrayal after another in her life so winning a free cruise along with some much needed cash has helped Belle to finally take a much needed vacation, and what's better than a 9 day Caribbean cruise. Yet, what seemed like a dream come true quickly turns into anything but when she comes face to face with her biggest nightmare while out at sea. The sweet man she'd been talking to was briskly and unwittingly pulled into her situation, yet didnt seem to mind.
As Belle and Tristan are forced to continue their charade, they spend countless hours together developing a fascination for one another they know can go nowhere due to so many circumstances they know are beyond their control.
