Her Silent Cry: Detective Josie Quinn, Book 6 Audible Audiobook – Unabridged
Round and round she goes, blonde pigtails flying, her high-pitched giggle catching on the wind. But as the ride slows to a stop, her seat is suddenly empty. Little Lucy is gone....
When seven-year-old Lucy Ross is snatched from the carousel in Denton city park, Detective Josie Quinn joins the frantic search. She’s the one who finds Lucy’s sparkly butterfly backpack abandoned by the ticket booth, a note with a devastating message stuffed inside: Answer your phone, or your sweet little darling will die....
The next day, Lucy’s parents are filled with hope when they pick up a call which they think is from their babysitter - but instead it’s a chilling male voice on the line. Josie races to the babysitter’s small apartment only to find her lifeless body in a tangle of sheets on her bed.
Josie is faced with the most high-stakes case of her career as each new phone call from someone connected to the family ends with the shocking discovery of another body. This twisted killer wants revenge, and he won’t stop until the Ross family are in pieces....
Something is telling Josie that Lucy’s parents aren’t giving her the whole truth, but digging deeper into their lives will force her to confront a life-changing secret of her own. Does Josie have what it takes to crack this case? She has no choice if she’s going to bring Lucy home alive....

This police procedural, with the FBI Child Abduction Rapid Deployment team is very well done, although the complexity of this story seems over-the-top sometimes. However, that just makes for a more exciting read. This is fiction after all! It is impossible to guess who abducted Lucy until the end. “Her Silent Cry” is well-written will lots of twists and surprises, and is very entertaining!
Altho’ this is book 6th in a series, it stands alone quite easily. Even with limited character development, it was not difficult to get a handle on the relationships between the “regulars” and the heroine, Josie. In fact, her twin and two boyfriends offered unique foils that aided in solving this emotionally driven, horrific crime. To say much more about it would be spoiler city...
I was impressed with Regan taking the high road and refraining from all manner of foul language, gratuitous and descriptive violence or sexual content. It’s absolutely refreshing when an author relies on skill, not cheap shock value. The writing and editing are both top notch and this author is one I’m adding to my follow list📚
When you think you are at the end with the mystery solved, the story isn’t quite finished! The author throws in that little bit more that makes the mystery a great story! She also has built up the characters in each book so much that you find that you have become so invested in each one that you just can’t wait to start the next story to find out what is store for them! Don’t worry because each book is a great stand alone story. But, beware because the more you read the more you want! That makes you want to go to the first story and read them all in order to understand how each character has developed and grown! Sit back, relax, and read a great mystery and a great story and when you think you have it all figured out, keep reading and enjoy how wrong you were and read the rest of the story!
First, I realized after reading this story that Ms. Regan doesn't show any of Josie's emotions. We're told how she feels. We don't even ever see her show the slightest PDA for Noah. I realize she's a consummate professional while she's on the job, but Josie never gives Noah's hand a little squeeze, or glance at him a little longer before leaving, or...anything like that.
I definitely felt Amy's and Colin's emotions; they were shown.
Secondly, it was also almost too much suspension of disbelief to think the police and the FBI wouldn't have been all over "Amy," when she failed the test. Or at any time following that which concerned "Amy"; they should have been all over the discrepancies.
I guess I'm saying this book felt meh, and I have a very hard time with that these days.
Over the series the characters have become so familiar. It is enjoyable to follow their lives. The cases are intriguing and the hunt for the criminals is always fascinating. This is one of those series that I can read over and over.
Her Silent Cry was a pulse pounding thriller. As the case progressed it became more clear how sinister and twisted the kidnapper was, and there is no reasoning with a madman. As layers are pulled back nothing is what it seems. It is an intense mystery that is very hard to put down. I highly recommend this book, and the series. I look forward to many more Josie Quinn books!

Josie is a character who is always changing and growing and yet she always stays true to herself. This book reminded me of how powerful her character is, the length to which she will go and her ability to think outside of the box. It is another compelling story and the new characters introduced were both complex and interesting. I knew I was in for a treat when I started reading this (finished in 3hrs), and I’m sad to have now read it and not have another book to dive into.
Why did this maniac kidnap Lucy? What mad thoughts are going through his head? And what reasons has he got to want to make Amy suffer by taken her child?
As usual, the author makes you wait 'til near the end before she uncovers all.
Good story and well written.
