Carolyn Keene and Franklin W. Dixon are the pseudonyms under which many ghostwriters penned the Nancy Drew and Hardy Boys series, respectively. Both series were created by Edward Stratemeyer, founder of the Stratemeyer Syndicate book packaging firm, in the late 1920s and early 1930s.

Stratemeyer's daughter, Harriet, and syndicate writer Mildred Wirt Benson were the two people primarily responsible for bringing the iconic character of Nancy Drew to life in the minds and hearts of millions of readers around the world.

Nancy Drew loves solving mysteries, . She was tasked to solve a ghost mystery at Twin Olk. There a mother and daughter have been mysteriously haunted by ghost who steals their jewllery, food and play eriee music in the walls. As, exciting as that may be Nancy's father was life was threathend as he too was working on a railroad case where a dishonest man tries to scam more money for himself out of the arragement made by the lawyers and the residents close by the railway. Nancy's life becomes complicated when her father turns up missing while she is trying to solve her mystery at twin olk. Doing amazing seluthing, picking up clues where they fall, following strong hunches and being very persistent she bridges the gap between the mystery at twin oalk and the disapperance of her father (who she later finds).

Once upon a time there was a girl (attractive, blond and quite bright) who's dated a guy named Dirk, has a friend called Helen and absolutly nothing to do besides solving mysteries no one would care about. A ghost haunts a mansion in the province.
The story Carolyn Keene is telling pictures us a time where the so called middle class is quite educated and the ones under them are lovely, act mostly dumb, witness some crimes and are afraid because the bad guys shake threateningly theire fists!
It is definitely a time before "Mona Lisa's smile" where girls get married at the lastest they turn twenty one. About time! Meantime they solve mysteries, prepare lunch or supper, entertain old owls and take a walk to enjoy the view! Honestly? but you must not judge too harshly. Nancy Drew is an hero! A female hero! She's quite emancipated! She a strong role model for a girl before our time. You can achieve anything if you take your life in your own hands and pursuits your happiness! The stories of Carolyn Keene are simple and for today out of time but they are an example of the "American Dream"!

Read the original book from the 40s and certain parts of the story have been changed to modernize for young readers. In the original, it was so fun to read about Nancy and her "roadster" rather than the convertible in this version. Still a good story for the young detective in all of us!
