Hideaway: A Novel Kindle Edition
|New from||Used from|
"Reading Hideaway is like a mini vacation, as Roberts transports you from the sun-drenched mountains of Big Sur to the rolling hills of Ireland to the bustling streets of New York City." - Associated Press
A family ranch in Big Sur country and a legacy of Hollywood royalty set the stage for Nora Roberts’ emotional new suspense novel, Hideaway.
Caitlyn Sullivan had come from a long line of Hollywood royalty, stretching back to her Irish immigrant great-grandfather. At nine, she was already a star—yet still an innocent child who loved to play hide and seek with her cousins at the family home in Big Sur. It was during one of those games that she disappeared.
Some may have considered her a pampered princess, but Cate was in fact a smart, scrappy fighter, and she managed to escape her abductors. Dillon Cooper was shocked to find the bloodied, exhausted girl huddled in his house—but when the teenager and his family heard her story they provided refuge, reuniting her with her loved ones.
Cate’s ordeal, though, was far from over. First came the discovery of a shocking betrayal that would send someone she’d trusted to prison. Then there were years spent away in western Ireland, peaceful and protected but with restlessness growing in her soul.
Finally, she would return to Los Angeles, gathering the courage to act again and get past the trauma that had derailed her life. What she didn’t yet know was that two seeds had been planted that long-ago night—one of a great love, and one of a terrible vengeance…
"Hideaway pulls you in from the first page...it will make you think hard about the small and big moments that make a person’s life zig or zag. And how some things are just meant to be." - Associated Press
"Roberts once again offers a master class in storytelling as she displays her formidable ability to portray easily relatable characters and engineer a plot spiked with chilling suspense and layered with life affirming love, which, together, generate a captivating read." - Booklist
"An impactful drama...fans of Roberts’s intense contemporary tales will enjoy this high-stakes love story." -Publishers Weekly
"Hideaway is a classic beach read, offering both suspense and romance." - AARP
"Hideaway is everything you want from the iconic Nora Roberts: suspense, vengeance, and of course, romance." - PopSugar

Boring, uninteresting and definitely not worth the price.
I won't go into too much details about the similarities due to not wanting to give away the story. You have a celebrity child kidnapping orchestrated by an insider. The boy who helps bring her home is her love interest. She keeps in contact with the dedicated cop working her case over the years (a father figure to the boy). Being tortured with reminders of her trauma over the years. Parent who keeps using her for publicity.
I wish the story hadn't ended where it did though. There was a final confrontation I would have like to have seen written.
I have never, and never will, minded your repeat story lines. For me they are all written with different characters, and different scenarios. Your books have me from the first sentence, as did this one. But sometime in the beginning of the book I had the entire story line figured out. And had to battle the boredom to finish it. Sometimes I have difficulty figuring on the villain, like in Whiskey Beach. But not this time. But thats ok.
This was a book that was discombobulating, and seriously headed towards boring. And I have never had that with any of your books that I have read. And this includes your Eve Dallas series. I have most of your books on my kindle and not a week goes by that I haven't reread one of yours. I binge the Eve Dallas series.
And the ending was really so unfair. You do usually end your stories abruptly, but this one should really have had an epilogue. You set it up with the sheriff stating she was going to get information and closure and then done.
I think I am going to do the library the next time one of your books comes out, that way I will not have to pay to be bored.

I feel like we never got the full ending. I wanted Sparks rage as things fell apart. I wanted the family dinner.
I think we miss a lot of the big pictures, finding out about the calls afterwards just threw off the character growth.
Not her best book but a light easy read.
