Sir Payton Murray's reputation as a lover is rivalled only by his prowess with the sword, yet it is the latter gift that has captured the interest of Kirstie MacLye. Fleeing a murderous husband who left her for dead, she vows to expose the man for the vile scoundrel that he is. She also knows it will take planning, cunning, and the help of a brave, arrogant, and willing champion. Kirstie only prays that Sir Payton will accept her challenge.
Though he risks the ire of his own clan and hers, Payton cannot ignore Kirstie's desperate plea or her captivating beauty. For he knows that nothing will deter the spirited lass from bringing an evil man to justice, even if she must do it alone. Joining her on this crusade, he embarks upon a dangerous quest against a powerful enemy only too eager to destroy them both.

Enjoyed this story and the characters. Payton and Kirstie became quite clear in my mind and I liked the way their attraction and affection built organically. Supporting cast is vast, but somehow not confusing. Each of them added something of value to the story and I look forward to reading some of their stories (especially Callum!).
Only negative: the book describes Kirstie several times as having very dark hair. Payton calls her his "little raven." And yet none of the version of the book's cover show a dark-haired woman. My paperback has a blonde woman and the ebook version shows a redhead.
A real disappointment.
The plot of the story was a shocker for me. Without a lot of actual details given (thank god) it was an eye opener that even way back when true evil walked this earth. Save to say the ending of the villian was not painful enough for me but just.
As much as I loved the leads and they have to be up there as one of my favs of all the books I've read I must see if Hannah has written a book that follows Callum finding adult hood. He truely stole the story.
There just isn't enough good things to say about this book. One of my favs!!
(my only nitpick and it's on the book is the typos. They weren't horrible and didn't take away from the story at all but there were a lot of them!)
Shadow is her nickname but I just love it so much it's what I always think of her as. She's known by her 9 brothers as shadow because she is small with dark hair, gray eyes and an olive complexion. But the woman is very talented in hiding and moving around without detection. It's this skill that allows her to save children from her blackguard of a husband. This was a hard part of the book for me to deal with but truly made for an amazing premise. Different than Hannah's usual work but still amazing.
