I do like a decent amount of heat in my highlander novels. BUT. It's hard to imagine that the heroine who: 1. almost drowned and went unconscious, 2. was beaten and roughly molested and 3. was a heartbeat away from suffering a violent rape by two men, was quite amorous the next morning with the hero. No way, not to the extent that was described. Tenderness understanding, yes. And then at the end the hero's ex mistress is in the delivery room looking at the hero with longing. What the bleep!

to get the book and read it yourself to find out. It is very
exciting and they go through a lot.

Or something similar.

This book reeks of boys will be boys mentality. The original betrothed Alan’s poor treatment go Mairghard was tolerated way too long. The laird was better but there were many references to the his past lovers and how “he enjoyed them”. Even while he’s yelling at his ex who pulled his betrothed’s hair he mentioned how he enjoyed her! Why can’t the author write a hero with more honor than this? Just because they’re men doesn’t mean all behavior is excused and their wives are just so lucky to land them.

Also the book lacks a trigger warning: assault attempted gang rape towards the heroine

I will not read any more novels by this author.

Since I began the series with the third book, I knew there had been perilous moments for the main characters in book 1. What I appreciate is that book three alludes to those moments without the detail of what actually occurred. That made this book enjoyable since neither book is spoiled by the rehashing of details. The sexual scenes tend to be redundant and drift away from romance into pure list and sex. That does detract some from the genuine love of the couple.

Mairghread is a strong woman being the youngest & the only girl, he brothers taught her how to protect herself.
Tristan became Laird of his at the age of ten & five. His step mother & 1/2 brother were no help, but until Mairghread came to his home on getting the clans to join together by marrying Alan. But things changed quickly.

This book is a beautiful love story. It tells of Mair and Tristan who meet when she arrives at his keep for an arranged marriage to his stepbrother. Mair did not like his stepbrother who ran after other women like something possessed. Tristan sent his step mother and stepbrother away from his keep then decided to ask Mair’s father if he could marry Mair instead of his stepbrother.
From then, there was romance, fighting, kidnap, all sorts of things happening. Mair’s father made them wait a few months to see how things would pan out. The stepbrother was a very wicked person and was not happy when he heard about Tristan and Mair. The book was colourful and loving. The step family were evil and tried to take revenge on Tristan and Mair. I enjoyed reading this book very much. Thank you for writing it Miss Barclay.
