You have heard it before from other reviewers but I will repeat it. The author transports you with her descriptive writing. She didn’t just make me see the surroundings, she took me there. I felt the cold, heard the rain drip on leaves, and saw the mountains. I also felt the emotions; fear , loneliness, longing, and love. The narration by two people works so well in this novel. Maybe I was just ready for this type of novel but if you enjoy books about Scotland’s history I recommend this one. It is a novel but based on an actual historical event. I enjoyed getting to know Corag.
This book absolutely enchanted me. I could hear her voice and she made me see and feel what she was going through. It has encouraged me to take a moment and appreciate everyday things like the beauty of a drop of dew, or the twinkle of snow, the smell of rain, to see the beauty and good in all things and forgiveness…
I loved the way it was written from Corrag telling the story to Charles Leslie writing his wife and his thoughts.
I loved this book and will read it again.
I learned about Susan's novels when in Hood River, Oregon as my husband and I were wine tasting at at the incredible Cascade Cliffs winery tasting room. A wonderful gal had just lost her Dad to his passing. Some how this came up and we began talking about good books. This is when she shared her FAVORITE book trilogy by Susan Fletcher. Another DA, DA, Da moment was when I said we were going to be spending a month in Ireland and Scotland with two other couples. So I downloaded it on to my Kindle and I really did enjoy it!! Thank you Susan!! Please find a way to contact this retired woman....
