Hired Gun #3 (The Sicarii Serial) Kindle Edition
Just when Thorne thought things couldn’t get any more complicated, Athena throws another wrench into the mix. The mystery of Kataya Clarke has been solved, and Thorne’s not quite sure how he feels about this revelation.
Have the gods played a joke on him or done him a favor? Either way he has to come to terms with the information.
Meanwhile, The Sicarii assigns Thorne a hit that will be more challenging than any he’s faced before. Even he’s not sure if he’ll have the ability to take down a powerful demon hell-bent on revenge.

Thorne is trying hard to figure out exactly what he needs to do, and how to really get to Kataya. Nothing outside of work goes as planned. This serial sucked me in even further and I really don't want to wait for part 4!
We pick up where book 2 leaves off. Although he doesn't trust her, Thorne is still inexplicable attracted to Kataya and it pisses him off. After several weeks have passed since the last time he saw her, he runs into her at Apotheca and decides he has something to prove. Being his usual insufferable self, he acts the complete a$$ until he learns through Nike just who Kataya is and her link to him. He also learns that the reason he is more powerful than most halflings is a result of who his mother was, and that he will play a role in potentially saving the world, but needs Kataya on his side. Tasked with winning her over, he attempts to reconcile who she is with how they feel about each other, and just how difficult a task it will be to make her fall in love with him. There is someone on Earth that poses a serious danger to both The Realm and Earth, and Kataya just may be working with him.
This one was a little strange for me. I struggled a bit with Thorne. He is just so arrogant, and his treatment of women is truly atrocious. And yet, a softer side of him would occasionally pop out after learning what Athena did and her role in Kataya's life. The issue? Those moments were so few and far between. At this point, I'm on Kataya's side and wishing she would just give him a swift kick in the balls. The man seriously needs to be put in his place. A little what goes around, comes around. Usually, I'm not so vindictive, but damn, I'll say it again, if anyone deserves a little comeuppance, it's Thorne. Those softer moments when you get a glimpse into his upbringing and how the Gods treated him just can't be out-weighed by how he treats Kataya, and even Ginger. I like a strong male character, but there is a fine line here.
So here is looking forward to book 4 to see what Thorne's next move is and exactly how Kataya will respond. If you're just tuning in, go back to the first two books or pick up The Sicarii which contains all 4 serials in one.
In book #3, Thorne is trying hard to figure out exactly what he needs to do, and how to really get to Kataya. Nothing goes as planned - but it is an awesome story.
When reading this book, I found that once I started that it was so so so so hard to put it down. Guess it is a good thing that this book is short and sweet.
I was given a copy of this book for an honest review.
Can't wait to see what develops in book #3. This is a must read Serial Novella. It's a page turner and for short story it makes it even more hard to wait on the next book, but so well worth it.
I was given a copy for an unbias opinion.
