One of the all-time great Westerns

Hart made films that hit a person in the conscience, and The Toll Gate is no exception. This is a masterpiece, and one of the greatest entries in the Western genre. A badman reformed by love, and one of the finest endings in motion picture history. Watching the film, you realize what an influence Hart was on other Western actors such as John Wayne, Clint Eastwood, and Randolph Scott. He doesn't pull punches, nor should he. The heroine is pure, unlike today's films. We need actors like Hart in today's movies.

terrible rendition of a classic

This dvd is such an injustice to William S. Hart, and the photoplay as to be laughable. My copy wouldn't even play all the way through. This film needs a frame by frame digital clean up. Shame on the company that put this out.
