'Minerva was the Roman goddess of warriors and wisdom. William McGonagall is celebrated as the worst poet in British history. There was something irresistible to me about his name, and the idea that such a brilliant woman might be a distant relative of the buffoonish McGonagall.' - J.K. Rowling
Pottermore Presents is a collection of J.K. Rowling's writing from the Pottermore archives: short reads originally featured on pottermore.com with some exclusive new additions. These eBooks, with writing curated by Pottermore, will take you beyond the Harry Potter stories as J.K. Rowling reveals her inspiration, intricate details of characters' lives and surprises from the wizarding world.
These stories of heroism, hardship and dangerous hobbies profile two of the Harry Potter stories' most courageous and iconic characters: Minerva McGonagall and Remus Lupin. J.K. Rowling also gives us a peek behind the closed curtains of Sybill Trelawney's life, and you'll encounter the reckless, magical-beast-loving Silvanus Kettleburn along the way.

About the author

J.K. Rowling is best-known as the author of the seven Harry Potter books, which were published between 1997 and 2007. The enduringly popular adventures of Harry, Ron and Hermione have gone on to sell over 500 million copies, be translated into over 80 languages and made into eight blockbuster films.
Alongside the Harry Potter series, J.K. Rowling also wrote three short companion volumes for charity: Quidditch Through the Ages and Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, in aid of Comic Relief, and The Tales of Beedle the Bard, in aid of Lumos. The companion books and original series are all available as audiobooks.
In 2016, J.K. Rowling collaborated with playwright Jack Thorne and director John Tiffany to continue Harry’s story in a stage play, Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, which opened in London, followed by the USA and Australia.
In the same year, she made her debut as a screenwriter with the film Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them. Inspired by the original companion volume, it was the first in a series of new adventures featuring wizarding world magizoologist Newt Scamander. The second, Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald, was released in 2018 and the third, Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore is to be released in April 2022.
Both the screenplays, as well as the script of Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, are also available as books.
Fans of Fantastic Beasts and Harry Potter can find out more at www.wizardingworld.com.
J.K. Rowling also writes novels for adults. The Casual Vacancy was published in 2012 and adapted for television in 2015. Under the pseudonym Robert Galbraith, she is the author of the highly acclaimed ‘Strike’ crime series, featuring private detective Cormoran Strike and his partner Robin Ellacott. The first of these, The Cuckoo’s Calling, was published to critical acclaim in 2013, at first without its author’s true identity being known. The Silkworm followed in 2014, Career of Evil in 2015 and Lethal White in 2018. All four books have been adapted for television by the BBC and HBO. The fifth book, Troubled Blood, is now out and was also an instant bestseller.
J.K. Rowling’s 2008 Harvard Commencement speech was published in 2015 as an illustrated book, Very Good Lives: The Fringe Benefits of Failure and the Importance of Imagination, sold in aid of Lumos and university-wide financial aid at Harvard.
In 2020, J.K. Rowling released in free online instalments, The Ickabog, an original fairy tale, which she wrote over ten years ago as a bedtime story for her younger children. She decided to share the personal family favourite to help entertain children, parents and carers confined at home during the Covid-19 lockdown.
The story is now published as a book (hardback, ebook and audio) in the English language, and is translated into 26 languages, each edition with its own unique illustrations by children. J.K. Rowling is donating her royalties from The Ickabog to her charitable trust, The Volant Charitable Trust, to assist vulnerable groups who have been particularly impacted by the Covid-19 pandemic in the UK and internationally.
J.K. Rowling’s latest children’s novel, The Christmas Pig, is out now. Illustrated by Jim Field, it’s the story of a little boy called Jack, and his beloved toy, Dur Pig, and the toy that replaces Dur Pig when he’s lost on Christmas Eve – the Christmas Pig. Together, Jack and the Christmas Pig embark on a magical journey to seek something lost, and to save the best friend Jack has ever known.
As well as receiving an OBE and Companion of Honour for services to children’s literature, J.K. Rowling has received many other awards and honours, including France’s Legion d’Honneur, Spain’s Prince of Asturias Award and Denmark’s Hans Christian Andersen Award.

The biggest plus for me is that you can hear JKR's voice so clearly through the entire thing. It's nothing like Cursed Child. This book (and I'm hoping the other two!) just ooze Rowling's writing style, creativity, attention to detail, and love of the wizarding world. This is so refreshing after CC. I cannot wait to read the other two! I will say that some of this information has been available either on Pottermore (which I don't get to that often) or from other interviews, but it's nice to have it all together and on my kindle. My biggest hope for this is that they'll put these into print, either compiled together or with added information so I can add it to my HP collection!
As a reminder, these Pottermore Presents books are super short and can definitely be finished in one sitting.
found throughout the series.
Well, here are a few background stories/details for two main "faces"
we see a lot of and two of the lesser characters we see.
How did they become the people we watch walk the halls of Hogwarts?
What led them to Hogwarts?
What became of them at the end of the final story?
Enjoy revisiting with them, and maybe you will come away with a different
view of their reasons for doing certain things.
This Kettleburn teacher...I don't remember him being mentioned in any of the books. So that proves that there is more to learn about
The Wizarly World...and so many more characters to absorb. Read on.
But anyway thanks a lot for what you’ve done and my continue to do

‘Short Stories from Hogwarts of Heroism, Hardship and Dangerous Hobbies’ consist of the biographies of four teachers from Hogwarts. It thus provides some background information and history about these characters which wasn’t covered in the regular novels. This expands these characters and gives a further insight into their personalities.
The four sections are very differently weighted with much more material being given to McGonagall and Lupin whose biographies are particularly informative and arouse quite a level of pathos. In comparison the section on Silvanus Kettleburn, certainly one of the least known of the teachers, is remarkably brief and not too enlightening.
Each of these biographies are accompanied by a couple of exerts that generally relate in some way to that particular teacher’s subject or something related to them; for example Lupin’s biography is accompanied by a brief discussion on werewolves in the wizarding world. They also come with a few thoughts from the author herself about how she came to create these characters and what influenced their creation.
Essentially this is a publication designed for Harry Potter fans that after absorbing the novels and films are looking for a bit more background information; particularly on things that the scope of the novels might not have covered in much detail. It isn’t aimed at new readers at all and assumes a certain level of previous knowledge. For its target audience, however, it enriches the world of witchcraft and wizardry created by Rowling.

When I end my next inevitable pilgrimage into the wizarding world, where the character's journey will end in the pages but go on without me, and mine without them, I think I'll include these books in the series as essential reading towards the end of the saga. Thank you for this gift, J.K.

Overall, it is a good quick read and adds that little extra. JK Rowling also adds little extras after each little bit as well, so you get to know her thoughts. It’s not written in depth and passionately like the series, as this is a short read and four stories/characters are squeezed in to these 60+ pages. Lupins I would say, in my opinion, is definitely written the best. Possibly because it’s also JK Rowlings favourite character and she put more effort and pride into writing that section. Also possibly because it made me get all emotional again... Damn you J.K. Rowling!

Anywho, I was very excited about this series of books and oh wow did they blow my mind. I loved learning about the history of Hogwarts and more about the supporting cast of Harry Potter. This is what I want more of. Who knew Minerva McGonagal’s past was so fraught with heartache or the exact details of Professor Trewlany’s legacy?
This series will satiate the appetite of any HP fan….but don’t expect it to last too long. WE. WANT. MORE!

This one had me welling up! The chapter on Remus Lupin was just really moving. I mean it was already clear both from his demeanor and the things that were revealed in the Harry Potter series, that he'd had a hard life, but this was putting it all in one place and in detail. It gave me a greater apprectation for a character that already struck a chord.
I also really liked learning more about McGonagall, there was so many little extra bits that showed just how well thought out the character was and I thought that it rounded her out as a character, even more so than in the books.
It was also good to learn more about the Maurauders in the McGonagall and Lupin chapters!
