Thus, I would not recommend the NLT unless one is already familiar with how the texts were translated previously by a more respectable scholarly team. There are far too many English translations available that are still very easy to read and understand to sacrifice the truth to utilize this modern fad called the NLT.
Other than that one "flaw" I enjoy this translation on a daily basis. Also, for me personally, I enjoy the fact that the text is not broken up with notes, maps, etc. and is just clear readable text. If I could just get the same thing minus the red letters in the Gospels. Thank You.
FYI: For anyone that gets concerned over which translation is the "best" I always recommend
"How to Choose a Translation for All Its Worth: A Guide to Understanding and Using Bible Versions"
by Gordon D. Fee and Mark L. Strauss.
As for the book itself, it is great. Real leather, gold binding, the words of Christ in red, and very large type on nice thin Bible paper. A wonderful gift.
The negatives in the reviews here nearly caused me to order a hard copy:'hard to navigate?' 'red letters not red?' 'print's too small?' 'can't access verses?' These problems don't exist on my laptop Kindle app. I can adjust font size, change contrast, and navigation is fairly straightforward. Best of all, I have no problems bookmarking or highlighting. The only drawback is, I can't scribble in it. This is most likely a good thing, since this bible will be cleaner and neater, easier to read as a result.
Please note: I also have the freebie Bible versions for Kindle everyone says are easier to access. They are in fact harder to get around in than this NLT for Kindle. Want to have a lightweight bible to take to church? Get a netbook and download the free Kindle app to that. Then you can not only read your Bible along with the pastor, but you can open a second tab and take notes as well. You can even port your Kindle library selections to another device, laptop, desktop computer or smart phone. My advice is, don't bother with the i-pad. It's like the Kindle. Just about the time you decide to splurge for the device, it's been changed and tweaked and costs more than it did before. Keep it simple. Those little notebooks cost almost the same as a Kindle, and are much more versatile, with no monthly fees for data downloads.

This is a great edition to my KJV, NKJV and NIV versions. The more you understand, the better, as long as truth isn't compromised.

I have always found printed Bibles difficult to read because of the size and bulk of the book, and the tiny size of the print, making study quite often an awkward and physically uncomfortable exercise. I read the Bible almost exclusively on my kindle now, and this is the version I primarily use.
The built in kindle function which offers automatic definitions for any unusual words has been priceless, as has the ability to create notes and highlights which do not in anyway disrupt or ruin the text, nor clutter up the page in any way (being accessed through small links).
A brilliant buy all round.

They have provided subject headings as reference points at the beginning, i.e. What the Bible says about Abortion or other topics, you then just tap the blue type and you are taken straight there (No thumbing through the pages for ages to find what you want).
They explain there methodology and I knew as soon as I started reading this version of the Holy Bible, it was the one for me.
I highly recommend it for casual readers or scholars alike and nobody can say its too expensive, plus no delivery hassle. I Love my Bible and my Kindle
