Horrible Histories

 (38)8.82010TV-PG
"Horrible Histories" is an energetic, surprising and unconventional take on history's most gruesome, unpleasant yet funniest moments. From the woeful World Wars, the miserable Middle Ages and the savage Stone Age to cut-throat Celts, groovy Greeks, rotten Romans, vile Vikings and awful Egyptians, history has never been so naughty.

5.0 out of 5 starsThe magic that made the first 5 series so brilliant is lost in the 6th.
The first 5 series of the show are legitimately some of the best educational Schumer I've ever seen on television, regardless of country or region. An amazing cast of talented actors, brilliant musical sequences, gorgeous sets and costumes, and writing that can be enjoyed by both adults and kids. to not watch the first five series of Horrible Histories is to do yourself a massive disservice. The first five series are, collectively, fantastic.

That said, I'm not sure exactly what happened, but the 6th series is a complete and total mess. They must have been operating with a quarter of the budget of any of the other series, as it's just a lacking experience in every possible sense of the word. The practical sets are minimal and mostly replaced with crappy greenscreen backgrounds, the writing is completely derivative and lacks any of the charm or brilliance of the rest of the show, and they use puerile fart jokes and poop humor to fill in many lulls in the dialogue during sketches. Also missing are the genuinely awesome songs and phenomenal cast. It's a complete mess.

It's my understanding that this was produced somewhat as an afterthought, several years after the end of the proper show, which explains a lot about its lack of quality. I'm glad they ended it here, rather than stretch this garbage out over another few series.

5.0 out of 5 starsI love this show so much...
I bought an all-region player just to watch the DVDs I bought. I can't take a chance on it disappearing from Amazon or that other streaming service. Do not be fooled - this isn't just for kids. It's fun, it's funny, the songs are great and it always lifts my spirits if I'm down. It's also my go-to when I'm sick.

Talented, talented actors. I just can't say enough good things about this show!

5.0 out of 5 starsThe Most Talented Show! Hilarious!
This show is wonderfully hilarious! The actors are absolutely the most talented in the business. The costumes and sets are superb! The sketches are a fun way to learn...."accu
...RAT" history. I have been bingeing on these and have never laughed so much in a long time! Hats off to the creativity of the writers!

5.0 out of 5 starsLove this but Chatty Death is cut out????
I love this and so do my grandkids, but in Season 6, the Chatty Death scenes seem to be cut out or skipped. It starts, but then cuts to the next episode. Anyone else with this issue?

3.0 out of 5 starsSomewhat interesting but HIGHLY repetitive
I wavered between 2 and 3 stars as it is a bit entertaining but repeats itself A LOT i.e. the exact same few tidbits of information about Cleopatra are repeated in numerous episodes. As for the historical information itself I already knew most of what they had to say and am taking the unknown parts with a does of skepticism as they say in one episode that Ireland was completely freed from colonial rule by England in 1948 which is untrue and akin to saying that America left the natives there in peace and complete self governance once they moved onto the reservations.

5.0 out of 5 starsLearn about your ancestors and other ridiculous people of the past
This series is well done and educates us all about how bad, crazy, and loony so many of our ancestors/past civilizations were. My kiddo watches the show and has learned a ton about the Romans, Vikings, and many others. She shares her new discoveries with her classmates and is starting to become the leading knowledge in her 3rd grade class.

Watch this show, learn something new, and realize you don't live in any of these horrible times. And yes, most of this British staff are super goofy...which we love!

5.0 out of 5 starsSo funny!
I loved the creativity of this series. I would've loved watching this when it was on air! After season 3, I went back to the beginning and binged with my 11yo son. We really liked the sets and costumes but especially the song parodies. When the cast changed after season 5, we noticed something was different about season 6, like a lot more poop/fart jokes and some sketches we'd seen in previous seasons but it was still fun to watch. What a new, fun way to learn boring history lol. Hope future watchers enjoy as much as we did!

5.0 out of 5 starsActually makes history fun for kids and adults
Great series to get middle-school aged kids (and nerdy adults) interested in history. Maybe not appropriate for little tiny kids (lots of potty humor) but this gang truely does teach you all the stuff you didn't learn in school.
