Q: So, what makes your writing so special?
A: I wanted to write stories that mirrored the books I liked to read in my childhood. My top picks were usually urban fantasy, paranormal best sellers, and of course, books featuring your classic gritty, pulp-fiction heroes. Basically, anything with a lot of creepy crawly supernatural characters: mythical creatures, ancient heroes, super villains, and gods. You will find that my stories focus on the ancient myths, characters, and stories we all know, fear, and love. Then twist them up and toss them back like an empty beer can.

In the tenth book of the Nate Chronicle Series, and the longest, HORSEMAN, is filled with Shayne Silvers’ usual humor but takes the reader on a journey that literally scrapes the soul.

Silvers is a brilliant writer. He has a way to take a thought or an idea and write it as insight with a turn of a phrase. The reader thinks they are being entertained by a storyteller but when actually, they are learning about life. It is so subtle sometimes, readers don’t even realize that hearts have been touched in a deep way.

Nate, the main character, is confronted with his current foe, while struggling with a past that his parents have kept from him, and trying to find his heart again with a new love. Silvers also gives us more insight into Nate’s psyche with scenes with the Fae Chancery and the Kiss of Vampires in St. Louis.

The final climatic scene at the Dueling Grounds will blow your mind away. With uniting the supernatural families of St. Louis, Nate’s strength is found in friendship, love and family. At first, I thought the fight scene was too long but ultimately feel that every word was needed to get an understanding of what was truly happening. There are so many elements that are taking place and Shayne Silvers walks the reader through every step.

The relationship scenes between Nate and his adopted son, Alex as well as Nate and Callie, show a side of Nate that grabs hold of your heart and soul. If the reader has ever struggled with a hate or love for Nate, this will turn the tide.

Shayne Silvers has led the reader in a journey of Nate’s life, though good and bad times, and no matter what, he continues to keep the interest alive through every event. He has made Nate and all the characters real to the audience. Through Shayne’s words, readers will cry with Nate as well as cheer him on. The audience feels a connection to these people and welcome them gladly in their lives every time another book is released.

Well done, Shayne. Truly, Princess Sparkles Always Win.

I guess that's what I get for putting it down in writing that Silvers is maintaining rather than escalating, he just takes it as a "hold my beer" moment. Or maybe a "come at me, bro".

Nate Temple has been jumping from one hodgepodge mess to another in a desperate struggle to keep up with everything going bump in the night, from crowning himself a King in necessity to juggling the emerging memories of two different lifetimes and the resulting ripples they cause in his powers. Also safe to say that being dragooned into the service of Hell to both clean up his own mess and keep the world from being destroyed has made his itinerary rather full, but he manages to fit in a budding paternal complex and yet another reshuffling of his romantic priorities via epiphany under duress at the same time. Business as usual.

So of course Silvers decided to flip the game board. Again. Something simple, like a whole restructuring of the very nature and power identity of the Biblical Horsemen of the Apocalypse. One that already has telltale hints as subtle as a hammer to the jaw about how it will affect not only Nate himself, but the broader cast of his ragtag friends and associates on a rather fittingly Biblical scale. Or maybe not quite solely Biblical, not anymore.

As ever, there are more questions than answers, and as usual Silvers' greatest glee comes from snagging the hook and leaving the fish to struggle and wait before putting them out of their misery. So apparently I'm just another halibut on the line at this point, waiting to see what happens next.

Mordred has escaped from hell and Anubis is not happy. And so begins the latest installment in the Nate Temple Universe and boy is it a good one. There’s a lot that happens in this book. While the majority of it centers on Mordred, there is also Nate’s newly minted Kingship to deal with, flashbacks from his childhood in Fae are causing issues, and then there is the horseman thing, for which we finally receive an answer…or is it a new start.

What is certain is that this is another rollicking tale with the ever-present twists and turns we’ve come to expect. There are cameos from a lot of the usual suspects and the ending of some stories and naturally the starting of new. Given the new back-story, it’s a little slower to get going but once it does, it is action packed with a brilliantly thought out and executed ending.

It is simply amazing that Shayne can keep up both this pace and level of complexity and when you think he’s done, or you think you know the future of the series; nope; here’s something new to consider and direction to travel. I highly highly recommend; Shayne’s imagination is world class.
