Don't buy if you're buying it for the Chinese Text
Reviewed in the United States on July 1, 2016
Don't bother buying this for the Chinese part of the book. The Chinese characters in the book are SO small that my sons grandparents are not able to read the text! I could barely see the Chinese text myself. It's as if they took a normal Dr. Seuss book and CRAMMED in the Chinese and didn't bother to consider if anyone could read the darn thing! Needless to say it is useless for the reason I bought it for which was to have my sons grandparents read books to him in Chinese since his grandma doesn't speak or read English well. The only reason I'm not returning it is that we don't already have this book and I can read the book to him in english. It's not worth the hassle of returning it.

Horton Hatches the Egg, along with all the Dr Seuss books, are wonderfully iconic symbols of happy childhood. I read this book & many others by Dr Seuss to my younger cousins over & over. As an adult I have accumulated a library of these delightful books. The fact that some of them have been taken out of print due to some false claim of racism is beyond ridiculous. These books express what children SHOULD be taught & do not contain any racist elements.

This was my kid’s favorite Dr. Seuss book, and now it’s my grandkids favorite too. I have to read it to them while they are taking a bath 3 and 5 yo. The older one loves to repeat that famous line…”I meant what I said, and I said what meant, an elephant’s faithful one hundred percent!” It’s the best!

This is one of my most memorable childhood books. In fact, it shaped my life to become a person of integrity. It is a fun read and a great choice for teaching perseverance and inner strength to children. Strangely, I find myself even quoting this book nowadays from time to time... "I meant what I said and I said what I meant. An elephant's faithful 100%"

Got this for my daughter who is performing in Seussical this year for the other performers to sign at the end as a souvenir for her. She's playing Mayzie. The book is in great condition, perfectly the classic Seuss. I just hate the paper sticker on the front!

I heard this in second grade and was captivated by it's originality and adventure. I used it with my children until our book was ragged. I recently bought it for my 32 year old Grandson to read to his family and they loved it also.

I purchased this book for my personal library and use it to talk to kids about keeping their promises. There are enough consequences that Horton suffers to make it realistic. And it may sound strange, but you can actually use this book to talk to kids about peer pressure and drugs.
I recently had the opportunity to read it to my five year old granddaughter and watch her face as she heard the story for the first time. She was really into the story, and thought it was funny when the egg hatched. It's fun to be a grandma now and read these to a whole new generation, realizing that quality stories don't get old.

Horton is a great role model! He only appears in 2 books (that I've found), but he should be in more! Not only does he keep his word, he does it at great personal cost, even when faced with his own death! Read this book to your kids over and over. I have 8 and they are all grown up, and none of them have turned into an axe murder yet, so I guess it worked!

I read this book to my daughters, ages 7 and 3, and they loved it. I love the storyline and the lesson that the book tells. I would recommend this book to anyone. My book also arrived in great shape.

One of my favourite childhood books

I read this book so much as a child I knew it off by heart!
The story of poor Horton the elephant, who does a favour for his bird friend Maisie, but then she swans off and enjoys her life leaving Horton sitting on her nest! Children will love the ridicules story of an elephant sitting on a bird’s nest in a tree!
I bought this copy for my friend’s son and I hope he loves it as much as I did.

Love this Dr Seuss story... and it should be, it should be, it should be like that because Horton was faithful.. and I love him.. I bought it for my grandson whose 18 months, probably still a bit young for it ( I was given it when I was 18 and have loved it ever since).

Firm favourite

This book has been a firm family favourite ~ to the point of being able to recite it. Usually at family dinners. I have purchased this for the next generation - unfortunately it does not have the wonderful hardcover like the old book we have. Fantastic story. Made better when I saw an elephant bird.

Another fine Horton Story
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on November 28, 2009
I can see this also being made into a move. It's a very different story to
Horton Hears a Who: Yellow Back Book (Dr Seuss Yellow Back Book)
bit is still very imaginative. This book is mainly about responsibility, which Horton has in bucket loads.

Horton Hatches the Egg

Not entirely logical esp at the end, but our grandchildren love it. It shows the importance of caring and responsibility, no matter what personal inconvenience is involved. It is also an opportunity to talk about peer pressure!
