The Presence of God or nothing.
Reviewed in the United States on August 19, 2013
I have found many books written by modern Christian writers have little substance, by comparison to some of the writings of some the great Christian minds of 100 to 400 years ago. As a result, I'm very wary of reading them until I've done some research.
This is not one of those!
It's not a literary great, but one cannot dismiss the heart's desire of the author for more of God's presence in his life. It makes so much sense of Moses' cry to God in the desert: "If your presence will not go with me, do not bring us up from here. For how shall it be known that I have found favor in your sight, I and your people? Is it not in your going with us, so that we are distinct, I and your people, from every other people on the face of the earth?" In other words: if the presence of God does not go with us, there is really no point in being called a Christian.
Now, I know that many will ask, "as Christians we all have the Holy Spirit dwelling within us so is this that relevant?"
But there is no doubt in my mind, from scripture and from my own experience, that there is also something called God's 'special' presence - something so tangible and real, something so powerful and loving - that you will do anything to have more, and more, and more!
Bill Johnson knows this experience and he wants others to know it too. Most of all, I got the impression that the motive for wanting it is not just for the experience sake, or that one's life will suddenly become easier/better etc - but for the glory of God.
If you - like me - have been seeking God for more of His presence in your life, this book will encourage you. It will not only encourage you to keep seeking - until you have found - but it will encourage you to step out of your comfort zones, in the realm of faith - and see God's presence released in and through you.
