A mysterious, emotional women's fiction, perfect for fans of Peyton Place and Desperate Housewives.
Annette Best is losing her grip. First went her business, then her house. Now, she’s on the brink of losing her marriage, too.
But the forty-something realtor has one thing going for her: girl friends. The women of Apple Hill Lane show up on moving day, ready to help Annette kiss her old life goodbye… until an eerie discovery turns up in her very own backyard.
Suddenly, Annette finds herself at the center of a small-town scandal and in danger of risking the biggest sale of her career. Others on Apple Hill Lane have been down this road--but not Annette Best. After all, she is the Best on the Block.
There’s a chance Annette can keep her secrets--and those of Harbor Hills--buried. But only if her neighbors are willing to share the burden of protecting a local, decades-old mystery.
Can Beverly, Quinn, Annette, and Judith make sense of the past? Or will the women get caught up in the gossip of the present?

. This was a fun read.
This book picks up immediately where The House with the Blue Front Door left off. We get a closer look into the Best family and see things may be worse than a business not doing well and downsizing to a smaller house around the corner to salvage their finances. We find out another character is facing a major change which took me by surprise, another one is letting a little romance in to hers, and the teenagers are trying to find out what happened to a missing woman!!
I'm loving this series and one of the reasons is the mysterious "girl" we read about in the prologue and epilogue of each book. Who is she? What happened to her? Is this the missing woman Vivi and Eli are researching? Is she one of the women living on Apple Hill Lane? What does she have to do with the man who owned the house before Quinn bought it? I have so many questions. I also love these books because of the dynamic between the characters--it reminds me of the TV show Desperate Housewives.
As I've said before I really like getting multiple points of view (POV) rather than just one point of view with me guessing what the other characters are thinking. The author puts the name of the character in the chapter heading, and I find this helps me remember which character is speaking.
I stayed up late reading and neglected other things so I could get back to this story. I can't wait until the next book comes out. Being sucked into a story and having it stick with me is why Elizabeth Bromke has quickly become one of my favorite authors of women's fiction.
