David Longhorn was born in North East England long before the internet, but fortunately they had plenty of books in those days! He enjoyed reading all sorts of fact and fiction in childhood and also became a huge fan of old horror movies and the BBC’s Ghost Stories for Christmas on television, despite losing a lot of sleep as a result.
He went on to get a degree in English Studies, which somehow led him to a career in local government, which in turn took him into a recording studio where he provided voice-overs, read news, and did a lot of other audio stuff. It’s been that kind of life, really – a bit random but quite interesting. All the while he was reading and writing supernatural fiction, influenced by both the classic tales of writers like Ambrose Bierce, M.R. James, and Edgar Allan Poe, but also by modern masters such as Stephen King. He hopes to write a lot more about the world of the dead and undead, assuming they let him…

The spirits whisper their pleas to be saved from a dark presence, whose hunger for souls has grown ravenous over the centuries… Professor Mortlake and Tara Pride do battle in Haslam House - a truly haunted house. But what is it haunted by?

Tara tries to take on the evil by herself - even holding a séance. But her newly found psychic abilities are not enough to stop the evil that inhabits this house. Can she and the Professor help release all the trapped souls in torment?

Well laid out story - keeps you on the edge of your seat!

Professor Mortlake and his apprentice Tara find themselves investigating a country house in the North of England that seems to be haunted by the spirit of a fortune teller from the 1800's. It is, kinda, sorta, but there proves to be a lot more here than first meets the eye. The horror goes back in time a lot further than first thought.
If you have any interest in British history, there is plenty here to keep your attention. Add to the mix a generous helping of David Longhorn's brand of horror and you have the fixins for a great read. This has the makings of a memorable series. Mortlake and Tara are paranormal investigators. There should be enough grist for the fright mill to keep our lights on for some time.
House of Whispers is definitely an example of Scare Street's high quality horror offerings. I am looking forward to more of this series.

I'm hooked. It has the making of a great series. The characters are marvelous and I like that each book, so far, is a different story that is solved at the end but it also has an underlying story that is slowly revealing itself. I'm looking forward to the next installment.

Haunted House

This is the 2nd of series. Loved the Characters of Mortlake, Tara, Anita, Carl, Tim and Ellie (an extremely sensitive child) but not Gonfallon and Cassandra. Tara is on short vacation With Anita to the Haslam House as it is haunted but ends up calling Mortlake to help deal with the supernatural. Hope there will be more of them and liked it more than the 1st

Great book! I t is very different from the first book in the series, but the characters seem to have a life of their own. No recycled plots here! The ending absolutely took my by surprise, i can't wait to read the next story! It will certainly hook your interest!
