Mr. McManus has a talent for turning normal daily life growing up in the rural western US into a gut-wrenching, floor-rolling, Kleenix (or toilet paper) soaking experience. His ability to write humorous short stories is beyond measure. What I originally considered bathroom readers has progressed into stories I cannot put down until long after my posterior has become numb from sitting too long in the 'powder-room'.....involking serious, worried inquiries by both my wife and dog as to my health. I have had to purchase his entire collection of short stories. Pat is a man I would definately look forward to meeting in person, just to see if he is 10% as funny in his normal daily life. Kudos to his wife for obviously having an excellent sense of humor as well.

I have been a fan of McManus' writing for years. While I enjoyed this book, it's not one of his best. This was more introspective, with more personal info than usual, rather than the stuff written for laughs, like "The Grasshopper Trap." I enjoy having this title in my collection--presents a more well-rounded picture of McManus. As a writer myself, I found a great deal to like about this book; to someone just looking for entertainment, it would probably have limited appeal.

Patrick F McManus at his usual greatness. He always catches me off guard. Be prepared howl with laughter. I've read almost all of his books, worn them out pretty much, and just found this one recently. It doesn't disappoint. Some of the old characters are resurfaced in new stories. I am not an outdoorsman - I am not even a man - and I find his stories very funny and entertaining. We have read his stories in family gatherings for years. Highly recommend.
