Understand human behavior and social psychology - and then you can understand yourself and the people around you.
Let's face it - most of the problems that we encounter in our lives aren't about the situation, it's about the person in front of you. Whether it's a parent, sibling, co-worker, or even significant other, there might be a gap in understanding. That's reasonable and normal.
But what if you could learn to understand people, their motivations, what makes them tick, and ultimately how to connect with them better? This is renowned author Patrick King's specialty: distilled emotional intelligence that helps you decipher why people do the things that they do.
He combines his natural instinct for human analysis with a plethora of the latest scientific research in the field to bring you the end result you want: better relationships, high self-esteem and confidence, self-understanding, and overall fulfillment and happiness.
GQ Magazine, TedX, Forbes, NBC News, Huffington Post, Business Insider, Men's Fitness, Inc., ATTN, Real Simple Magazine, and Creative Live.

I recommend this book to anyone who wants to learn all those things. Validation and being paid attention to is important, and this book really makes you aware on how to give those things.
He used to feel really misunderstood when people had a negative reaction to him. For years, I couldn't put my finger on why this was happening, until we started digging into the disparities in our "rule sets" on how things "should" work in a given situation.
I realized the irritation was from him not validating or seeking understanding from others BEFORE coming to a conclusion. I got him this book and explained that this is what other people are looking for in a conversation and that the techniques were worth learning because one would understand the true scope of a project/problem and be able to create a better outcome for all stakeholders.
He is able to change his opinion given new/additional information and the booked broke down the steps so it is easy to follow. Now I can ask for validation if I don't feel like I am getting it and that has benn quite helpful.
The author is clearly a consultant, and that comes out in the writing. It can come off a little seminar-ish in the delivery, but that is easily forgiven by the true knowledge, skill and passion put into the content.
I have never been particularly validating now that I am aware. This book may show you something about yourself that you’re uncomfortable with but it’ll give you some good advice for fixing the problems.
