It wasn’t long ago that Jon came to the castle with seven other sorcerers desperate to prove themselves. While Jon considers many of them his friends, at least one might actually be his enemy.
Those plotting against the king are everywhere, most posing as ordinary citizens. During the hunt for these sorcerers, Jon will learn just how powerful his own sorcery can become, but at what cost? Sacrifices must be made no matter Jon’s choices. Whatever he decides to do, it has to be done quickly. The traitor in the castle is waiting for something, and no one seems to have any idea what it is.

My name is Brian T Narro. I live in Montana with my talented wife, who designs and creates the badass covers of my books when she isn't working on her own children's books.
My newest novel is ACROSS THE FRAY. It's the fifth and final book in the Jon Oklar series.
My most recently finished series is the Jon Oklar series:
Book 1: The King's Sorcerer
Book 2: Hunted Sorcery
Book 3: The Path of Giants
Book 4: The Roots of Wrath
Book 5: Across the Fray
The most recently finished series before the Jon Oklar series is the The Stalwart Link:
Book 1: Echoes of a Fallen Kingdom
Book 2: A Bridge of Realms
Book 3: The Bones of Titans
Book 4: The End of Surrender
My other 17 fantasy novels all take place in the same world as each other, but the first book of each series introduces a new story. Because each series takes place after the previous series, some of the previous characters make small appearances while others find themselves heavily involved with new plots and protagonists.
You can start with any "Book 1" without missing anything important, but if you wish to start at the very beginning of it all and follow the progress of everything in order, I am putting a timeline of all my books at the bottom. Some other good starting places are with Kin of Kings or Awaken if you wish to try the most popular of my books first. You can always return to the beginning after finishing any of the more recent series.
I also love to hear from readers! Feel free to email me at brian@btnarro.com and visit my website at btnarro.com.

Jon fights to become more powerful, all the while being hunted by dteria users. He desperately wants to protect his friends and the kingdom, but with a traitor in the castle, everything is uncertain. The battle scenes, emotional confrontations between friends, and Jon’s struggle to come to terms with his own failures left me dying to read more!
Fans of fantasy adventure, magic, mystery, and awesome books in general will be hooked! And if you’re already a fan of Narro’s, you’ll love this series. Just be sure to head over to book 1 first.
Last we read a great deal about how special, strong, honorable the Jon O character is. Given this told by Jon first person the endless qualities Jon is lauded over feels cloying and overdone. I wondered it BT Narro was thinking of himself with all this praise. The author’s own ego seemed the point f the narrative given Jon’s astonishing looks , skills , and progression. The problem with that is I got so weary with Jon’s endless chatter about his greatness - had me flipping past many pages.
A true storyteller doesn’t need to explain at length. He lets the story unfold while we read and observe. An example of good storytelling can be found in the tales by John Gwynne or even Bryce O’Conner, Patrick Rothfuss, Phil Tucker, and many others. In BT Narro’s work I felt very little attachment to his characters and never felt the emotions many books arouse. I was anxious, attached to, or drawn to these characters as there wasn’t a well written tale to draw me up in. Clearly I am in the minority and am glad so many other were satisfied Inlike me
After the first book, I figured this simplistic writing was intentional - to capture the imagination of third graders. But after reading the second book with more mature themes on rape and sex, this series should be for an older audience.
The concept is great, the world building is interesting, the magic is something (why don’t any of them play instruments, too?), the characters even have some potential. A rewrite of these books, changing from first person to third, giving more perspective like he did from Remi’s view in the last chapter, tightening the scenes, and making the king more kingly rather than a poor schoolmaster, would move this series from mediocre to great.
Unfortunately, I feel like we are reading the second draft of what could have been the next Wheel of Time or Harry Potter series.
