I have to go to work
Disclaimer: I used to be on a nuclear submarine. A submarine commander must make tough decisions that make Denzel Washington look like a sissy. The plot is too improbable to repeat. I didn't know submarines carry submarines. The write up calls our hero Captain Joe Glass (Gerard Butler). He could be technically called "captain" because he was the top ranking officer. However, his rank insignia was that of a Commander, typical for many submarines, but doubtful for a mission of this type. I am not sure how he worked his way from enlisted to Commander, but he did.

Yes, there are a half dozen technical "huh?" I could easily spot. The film had a certain amount of machismo enjoyment.

Guide: F-word. No sex or nudity.

Worst Movie of 2018.
"Wow" is all I can say. What a painful movie to watch. Stupid beyond belief. Yes, there is a lot of action. I like action movies. But there has to be some semblance of believability. The characters don't act like real people would. The technical aspects are almost 100% inaccurate. The basic plot is OK, but the execution is horrible. The acting isn't bad, but the writers need to find new jobs. If you've never been in the military and have no clue about how things work in the real world, you might like this movie a little bit. If you're active duty or a veteran, you're going to despise this movie. If you're a submariner you'll need to bring a barf bag. On the up side, it would be great material for "Mystery Science Theater".

I loved it because I laughed all the way through it. I'm trying to figure how to get a refund.

If you ever served on a (real) Submarine (whatever nation) and in dire need of a belly laugh, please watch this movie!

I watched it last night and to be honest it was way better than what I was expecting. The story is nice and felt fresh.
Acting is top notch. Money well spent if you like a action thriller.
Worth the rental absolutely!!

Hunter Killer may be the worst movie I've seen in 10 years. The poor writing is only eclipsed by the abysmal directing.
If you're a 12 year old boy it might hold your interest. The movie contains so many implausible scenes that it becomes laughable in the first 20 minutes. I'll give any director a bit of license to stretch reality in a theatrical performance but Hunter Killer puts forth the absurd scene after scene. The over the top use of CGI doesn't help.
Then there's the efforts to be politically correct by casting women and minorities in every scene possible. The plot, as poorly written as it was, amounted to Crimson Tide meets Fast & Furious 47.

This movie belongs on the trash heap.

Don't waste your time.

Why all the complaints?
Based on some of the reviews, I hesitated to part with a five-spot to stream Hunter-Killer.
However, in my opinion, this is a really good actioner!
I'm certainly not going to complain about the extremely unlikely scenario, or that every military detail or situation wasn't accurate.
The film makers just pulled the cord and let 'er rip.
I loved every minute of it!
I appreciate the fact that the direction and acting were first-rate for the genre. I would rank it just below "Red October" with far better special effects than that classic.
In fact, the CGI was outstanding; sometimes you didn't know what was real and what was not.
Big money was spent on this jewel and it shows.
If you are an action fan, give it a view. I was really entertained by this movie.
I think some of the dissenters haven't taken time to unspool Hunter-Killer.
Go on, see for yourself.

A handful of submarines arrive at a location up in the Artic for mysterious reasons. Turns out a Russian general is ticked off he was not selected as an extra for 'Creed II' so he decides to aspire and throw a war party and see who comes, hoping the United States will accept an invitation. He puts the Russian President on lockdown and the Madame President HRC assigns in country S.E.A.L.s to RESCUE THE RUSSIAN PRESIDENT! (Perhaps in the DVD extras there is a deleted scene where thy dance the hokey pokey at a G20 Summit).

ALOT of scenes with people standing in control rooms pontificating about protocol. Some swearing and war violence. The most entertaining characters are the S.E.A.L.s, they eat bullets and exhale ice cream, in a manner of speaking.

This is based upon a 2012 book titled 'Firing Point', a LONG lumbering thing and ONLY HALF of the plot is used. I can not imagine how long it took to make this, little excitement. Submarine scenes may as well have been toys in a bath tub, I did not care. Re-watch 'Hunt for the Red October' or 'Star Trek' The Movie and feel better about yourself.

Excellent action movie. Gerard a little off, so a 4.5 star if I could, but good enough with an excellent supporting cast.
For me...... Highly recommended action movie.
