How customer reviews and ratings work

Customer Reviews, including Product Star Ratings help customers to learn more about the product and decide whether it is the right product for them.

To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. Instead, our system considers things like how recent a review is and if the reviewer bought the item on Amazon. It also analyzed reviews to verify trustworthiness.

5.0 out of 5 starsPicks up the pace

After reading Frank Herbert's first six books in the series, I was feeling as if the storyline was being dragged out. The story was still interesting, but the action had slowed down tremendously from the first two books. After Herbert's death, his son and another author took the reins to finish the saga. I'm glad they did. Hunters of Dune really picks up the pace. The series is back to being enjoyable to read. The chapters are short, so I can read them in spurts without marking pages and trying to figure out where I left off - I just stop reading when a new chapter begins. It took me one month to read the first four books of the series, one month to read Herbert's last two books, and now a week later and I'm more than halfway through the seventh book.

1.0 out of 5 starsAnything that must be endured, can be endured

This reads like fan fiction from a fourteen year old with a bad memory. Brian Herbert and Kevin Anderson chose to continue their dumbed down wiring style they used in their prequel novels to completely destroy the work of Frank Herbert. I would rather have spent the same money on Frank's 30 page outline than get through this loaf of meandering tripe filled with forgettable characters in ridiculous situations with more references to the prequel books than actual content from the actual Dune universe. But since this is the only format in which you can see the shadow of Frank's outline, you must endure it to learn the ending.

I am appreciative of how faithful Brian Herbert is to the original book universe and characters. I was quite surprised that this book has 97 chapters. I also purchased the Audible version, unfortunately the Audible version stops at chapter 18.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Saga Continues

As long as one remembers that it isn't intended to be written in Frank Herbert's style, it's an Excellent conclusion to the Dune Saga. Though, it is certainly far less cerebral than the FH books.

The HUNTERS OF DUNE closely connects with its sequel, SANDWORMS OF DUNE. As explained in the Authors' Note in HUNTERS OF DUNE, these two books form the so-called "Dune 7," which Frank Herbert was to write after CHAPTERHOUSE: DUNE. But he died. Years later his son Brian found a safe-deposit box with Frank's notes. From them came these two books by Brian Herbert and Kevin J. Anderson.

For the best Dune-universe experience--which is an outstanding one--read all the books in order. Though more releases are planned, for the chronological order of all 17 mainstream Dune novels that exist as I write, go here: http://www.amazon.com/Dune-Saga-Chronological-Order/lm/1COADLEGRZEOC .

After four successive Dune novels by Frank Herbert--CHILDREN OF DUNE, GOD EMPEROR OF DUNE, HERETICS OF DUNE, and CHAPTERHOUSE: DUNE--Brian and Kevin's HUNTERS OF DUNE feels like unpolluted air. Unless you like breathing Frank's stifling, gratuitous discourse.

As with some other Dune books, this one is initially calm. Relevant events from preceding volumes are recapped. Characters are introduced, background is laid, and interstellar politics are set. Then schemes develop, players make their moves, enemies engage. Pages draw your attention more and more intensely until you lose contact with your chair during the finale.

Before immersing yourself into this space opera, look through the timeline in the appendix. It does not have any spoilers.

I was pleasantly surprised to find Brian’s writing as engaging as his father Frank.

Well done Brian! I will buy the sequel.

I would put this book close to the quality of the original three books. After ready some of the other books I had gotten discouraged and almost quit on the series. I’m glad I didn’t. I’m looking forward to book 19.

When I finish Chapterhouse, I knew the story wasn't over. The death of Frank Hebert left me believing we would never get the end. Hunters of Dune and Sandworms of Dune left me satisfied that I got the ending we needed.
