Don't get me wrong, I loved the story and the writing was ok. But I really should not be able to read 3 books in your series in one afternoon.
I will not be purchasing the rest of the series, even though I would love to read them, because I am not willing to pay $25 for a series that I will likely read in 2 days.
Though I am not a fan of romance novels, or a gamer (though I will confess to being a bit of a nerd), I do like a well-crafted protagonist with a bit of depth. Jade Crow is wonderfully female, capable of great strength and resolve while at the same time she is compassionate and caring. Her life has made her tough but that exterior can be eggshell-thin, ready to be cracked by someone who cares.
While there's plenty of mayhem and a bit of humor, Bellet's characters are the highlight of her writing. Jade Crow is center stage, but she leads an ensemble cast that is believable as well as a treasure trove of future back stories. With each new novel, we have learned more about Harper, Ciaran and the others and even Brie, the baker, and Joel, the pizza guy.
In "Hunting Season" Crow gets closer to her ultimate showdown with her former mentor, Samir, as she takes on two of his acolytes while trying to save a rare animal and putting a coven of local witches in its place.
Like all of these series, the reader will get the maximum enjoyment out of "Hunting Season" if they have already read the preceding episodes, "Justice Calling," "Murder of Crows," and "Pack of Lies" all of which are available from Amazon. All are very enjoyable and they're fairly quick reads.
The fifth book in the series, "Heartache" is due in March 2015 and is billed being the final, hearteating meeting of Jade Crow and Samir.
Hunting Season progressed the over arching story of the evil ex-boyfriend sorcerer Samir by a lot, but it still had its own story that was the normal fast paced, butt kicking, magic filled adventure.
The only negative I had was that since it’s been a little while since I read the previous books it took me a little while to remember who everyone was. There wasn’t really a catch up or introduction for people. You just had to know.
Still really looking forward to the next installment.

The plot in this book develops at a good pace and I love the balance between tense fight scenes, the mystery/thriller element and the relationship growth between our heroine, Jade Crow, and her friends (both old and new) and her yummy boyfriend, Alek. But what keeps me coming back to a this Urban Fantasy series is the well placed humour - the banter between the characters and the great geeky references!
The evil threat to Jade's life grows closer in this book and I can't wait to read the next book...
For those of you wondering what I've been wittering on about - it's an incredible series with a refreshingly new idea and definitely worth reading.
The tension is grows from the beginning to a climactic end!
Annie's writing has matured over these past 4 books. The characters are less cliche and resemble more three dimensional people. Alek has a place now, which I first doubted. His abrupt arrival in to Jade's bed was unbelievable, but now their relationship feels more rounded.
I thoroughly enjoyable romp which sets up the fifth book quite nicely!
