Once the second book starts, it's quite clear the author thought out the entire rest of the trilogy. The book, Inkspell, has two interesting characteristics: it is the middle of the trilogy, and it, of course, was a complete story. The problem usually is that the story lags in the middle (either the part or the whole) but this book didn't seem to sag at all.
The third book though is just too much. There is so many pages and descriptions I felt myself sighing and putting the book down to let my brain rest for a couple days. The story is compelling, yet there was so much potatoes piled on top I had trouble finding the steak. I'm chalking it up to reader's fatigue!
Overall, this set is so great that after reading it at the library, I did indeed purchase it to add to my personal shelf.
Warning: Book three is intense and likely to prompt sadness in the reader. The calm after the storm is well worth the journey though. You'll find yourself rooting for the characters as they travel through, even as you bite your nails in suspense. ;)
The only reason I am giving 4 stars instead of 5 is because actually extracting the books from the box is a trial, and after only one read the spines of the books are well-lined, but I guess that's normal for paperbacks.

Other reviews were stating that the books were being shipped without a box, and that the product picture was misleading. This did not apply in my case. I got the three box nicely bound into an illustrated cardboard box.
