BICYCLE MANUAL OR RELIGIOUS PRIMER ... NOT SURE!
Reviewed in the United States on December 15, 2019
Kept waiting to see if this book would get interesting. Never happened! Flat writing. Did not seem, in the least, to truly capture the Italian character. WAY too much about his bicycle and its issues. SO BORING. And I don’t generally mind reading religious-associated observations in books, but his felt like they were being crammed down my throat! Couldn’t decide whether this book was a bicycle manual or religious primer. And the pictures??? BLACK & WHITE & BLURRY!!! I actually threw the book in the trash! Have NEVER done that with a book in my 60 years of reading! If you want a delightful (and FAR more genuine) depiction of the Italian character, read Annie Hawes 2 memoirs or Ferenc Mate’s book. Or even Marlena deBlasi’s books. All far more sympathetic and understanding of the sometimes frustrating-most times charming Italian character coupled with enjoyable, heartfelt anecdotes.
