Chloe's family line has inherited various aspects of the second sight👻. She works with her cousin, Leo, in the service of 👑King George to spy on enemies of the 👑crown. Her and Leo's premonitions👻 are invaluable!
They have been watching, Arthur👺, the Uncle of Julian🐺🍆⛲, the earl of Collinsmoor🏰, because they suspect him of selling intelligence to the French. He is also suspected of killing a number of people. Since Arthur👺 is an aristocrat, indelible proof of his crimes must be obtained, and that has not been possible, yet.
Arthur👺 wants to be The Earl, so he goes about eliminating the other male relatives in his family. He is also debauching Julian's wife, Lady Beatrice👹, after she intentionally had a stillborn son, and Julian🐺🍆⛲ lost interest in her. It is believed the cold and ruthless Beatrice👹 is in cahoots with Arthur👺 in his numerous attempts to kill Julian🐺🍆⛲.
Only Julian and Beatrice's son is not dead! An elaborate ruse was concocted by Leo and his cohorts, to switch a dead baby for the live one, Anthony👶. Baby Anthony is whisked away to London to be raised by Chloe and Leo, and kept safe from the murderous Arthur👺 until he can be brought to justice.....
This is a very long and involved ADULT novel which I really enjoyed, until near the very end, when Collinsmoo🏰r is attacked by Arthur👺 and his thugs. Here, there was some ridiculous dialogue all the while Chloe and Anthony are being held at knifepoint by Arthur.
Regency series with a paranormal twist. The entire Wherlocke family and their Vaughn cousins all have gifts or special powers. It was amazing just how many of this family our author could cram in one book. I actually loved learning about the cousins and their gifts. I had read this as a paperback many years ago and still found it exciting.
What I liked: the characters and learning about the gifts [psychic powers] of the Wherlocke and Vaughn family members. Their working together was awesome and I was drawn into their schemes to protect and defend the newborn son of Lord Julian Kenwood. The earl knew he was in trouble but was completely ignorant of the magnitude of the plots against him.
What I didn’t like: too much graphic sex that was way too adventurous for a virgin. Just saying. I’m looking forward to the next in the series.
Book 1: If He’s Wicked [Cloe Wherlocke and Lord Julian Kenwood]
Book 2: If He’s Sinful
Book 3: If He’s Wild
Book 4: If He’s Dangerous
Book 5: If He’s Tempted
Book 6: If He’s Daring
Book 7: If He’s Noble
*** Hannah Howell has always penned historical romances I have always enjoyed, but when a friend of mine pointed me back in her direction with Howell's newest fantasy series of the Wherlocke family who came with special gifts of seeing futures and detecting lies - I was totally intrigued. AND after reading IF HE'S WICKED - I can't wait to get my hands on the rest of this marvelous series.
It is not too often I've been shocked by the greed of people, both in reality and in fiction, but as seen in the Prologue of IF HE'S WICKED - a mother who allows her infant child to be placed in the arms of a dying woman in the hope that he would die as well has got to be one of the coldest and most horrid cases of a mother I have ever witnessed since Steinbeck's East of Eden! [Not a spoiler as this is discussed in the beginning of the book] All that aside, I was totally immersed in Howell's tale and loved every bit of it especially Chole who was a like a breath of fresh air! The dialogs between Chloe and Julian were great and the sensualness that was built into their relationship was lovely. However, Leo's comments to Julian once he knew Chole and Julian had done the `deed' was classic - "like rabbits". Nope, you're going to have to read the book to discover exactly what that phrase means!
Bottom line: I totally loved IF HE'S WICKED and am all set to buy the rest of this series and truly hope it goes on forever! Fantastic series - fantastic family!
Marilyn Rondeau, for [...]
The characters have depth and are likable. I hope I see Lady Mars ten again. If you like The Bridgertons Series, add a bit of gifts with the Wherlocke and Vaughn Families.
If I could afford publishing prices I would buy the entire series.
