OVER 2 MILLION COPIES SOLD--Double-gold medalist begins simply in baby sea turtle's voice:"I'm coming Mama, I'll see you soon, I know just how, I'll follow the moon." Celebrating the love between mother and child comes an achingly beautiful story that has captured hearts around the world. Written by a new mom, by accident, when she sang a little song to her fussing newborn, I'll follow the moon donates to charity: every book saves a turtle.
"[G]orgeous watercolors chronicle the journey of a baby sea turtle from its hatching to its first swim in the sea." --Kirkus Reviews
"[C]aptivates children with poetry..." --New York Times
"[A] tiny one-inch hatchling teaches the world about courage...utterly magnificent..." --San Francisco Chronicle
"[B]aby turtle wins hearts everywhere, expect your kids to hug you tightafterthe first read...expect to be asked to read again and again and again..." --USA Today
"[I]'m coming Mama, I'll see you soon, I know just how, I'll follow the moon...we can't get baby turtle's song out of our heads....achingly sweet little bedtime book for wee ones." --Huffington Post
"[N]o surprise at all that this book has a worldwide toddler-cult following...baby turtle serenades us all so sweetly with his song of home. Proceeds to turtle charities too!" --National Geographic
"[H]ats off to this turtle hatchling who has garnered millions of fans across the planet...a tiny activist who is saving his own kind...bravo." --World Wildlife Fund
"[S]tephanie Lisa Tara and Canadian illustrator Lee Edward Fodi have teamed upto create a lyrical rendition of a green sea turtle's first glimpse of life. Hatched on a moon-washed beach, the baby turtle finds its way by instinct across the expanse of sand to the sea and a rendezvous with its mother. Written in simple verse in the first person, the rhythmic text is full of action and sensory detail and loaded with alliteration and onomatopoeia for an enjoyable read-aloud. The refrain, "I'm coming, Mama," repeated on each double page spread, is soothing and reassuring of the joyful reunion to come. The atmosphere of a quiet but determined struggle to break free of the egg soon gives way to growing excitement as the turtle mingles with fellow hatchlings and catches his first tempting sensations: the smell of salt air, the sight of the moon's glow, the gentle touch and beckoning sounds of the waves rushing to shore. Once he's free of the land, new motions take over: gulp, spin, float, swim...The final happy refrain is new and satisfying: "I'm here, Mama - here with you. I know I'd find you, Moon did too. "[F]ramed by endpapers of soft, limitless, under sea green,Fodi's delightful illustrations feature an animated and engaging baby emerging from an egg buried in golden sand. With other tiny turtles, he is shown marching unerringly toward the moonlight glimmer, his guide to the ocean. Once afloat, he soon comes face to face with "eyes like mine"in his new watery home. The gold of sand, blue of sky and green of the sea repeated throughout the book bring a sense of harmony. The turtle is the focal point of all the pictures. The illustrator has carefully integrated the turtle's actions with Tara's verse which relies heavily on verbs: roll, slide, tumble......crawl, scoop, shove. Young children will be propelled through the story in the illustrations as well as the text." *Highly Recommended. --Canadian Materials Magazine, Gillian Richardson
"[I]n this tranquil bedtime story, a baby sea turtle hatches on the beach and wants to find his mother. And he knows just how -- he'll follow the moon! From his gentle struggles to break free of his egg to his determination to dig his way out of the sand nest, we follow the baby sea turtle on each step of his instinctive journey home." Very highly recommended. --Books of Wonder

First off, Amazon does not provide a look inside the book. Only the very touching story of the author, the front and the back of the book. I based my purchase on her story and the awesome reviews this book received. Then I decided to pay extra for the hard cover version, as our daughter did a school project about sea turtles for school, and I thought it would be a nice touch having her bring in a heartwarming story, about a little hatchling for other students to read as well. When it arrived I flipped through the pages and was immediately drawn to the beautiful pictures. The words and sentences though make absolutely NO sense to a child. If the author would have had kids before being inspired by her first baby, she would have taken that in consideration. Toddlers and elementary students have no understanding for poetry and deep meanings. I was in a hurry to give it away to a school, that actually teaches poetry early on. Hopefully they will be able to make sense of it. That way my $23 don't go to waste. Another pretty disappointing fact, and apologies for giving it away so quickly, I didn't get a chance to count the pages. The first few pages are dedication, the authors inspiration and table of contents and on and on. The story itself was about 15 pages with on one new sentence on each page, and another sentence that repeats itself on all 15 or so pages. The next 10 pages are highly rated reviews written for this book, which seemed a little odd to me. The first book ever I have bought that has pages and pages and pages of bragging reviews. Not only a waste of paper, but also of no interest to look at by kids! Very, very disappointed. Only a great book to people who like to dissect and find deep meanings in a whole bunch of nonsense sentences.
My reasons are almost caveats but they are what they are.
First of all, I have a daughter who passed away when she was 2 1/2 and she absolutely loved sea turtles. "I'll follow the Moon" reminded me of her. It really made my heart smile. So I read it to her in the only way I can.
Second is ive gotten to know the author only a little bit. It's how I found out about her book. I can only say she has been every bit the kind, compassionate, and thoughtful soul that comes out in her words.
The book itself is beautiful. The writing and artwork are gorgeous.
My sons are almost grown up, so I have no one else to read it to. But I have a friend who I can't wait to give this book to so he can read it to his children. I have a feeling theyll enjoy it as much as my daughter and I did.
There really wasn't much of a story to capture a child's attention. However, I don't really think children will care - especially not if they are reciting their lines and having a part in the story. I also don't think children will find the pictures too repetitive. I didn't. In fact, I liked the illustrations.
I read it to my youngest son, 14 months old, just after it loaded. He loved every word. He smiled and clapped and squealed when baby turtle found Mama. My oldest son, 5 years old, heard all the fun and came to see what was going on. He asked me to read it to him. All three of us read this story together. And as soon as it was over, we read it again and again and again and again. That first night, we read it 8 times. It is now the bedtime story request.
I received a hard copy of the book a few days ago. I immediately sat down with my little guy and read it to him again. I think that he loved it even more because he was able to turn the pages himself.
I love this book. I love the way that my boys love this book. I will absolutely start including a copy of this book with baby shower and birthday gifts. Every child needs to have one.

I saw this and it reminded me of the Disney Turtles story film that my sons loved so I downloaded it -( very happy mummy due to it being free) We read it that night and my sons absolutely loved it. My youngest loves this so much he asks for it all the time.
I advise anyone considering this story to download it, it's heart warming and although it is free it is a quality story that parents and children both will love reading.
