Side note: I rated this based on the stories in this collection that I ~didn't write. I have always been partial to magic!
Since the theme of this volume was 'magic' the collection was very fantasy based, but the stories were different enough that it didn't feel repetitive while I was reading. I especially liked The Paper Doll, by Nancy O'Toole, and Grieftaker, by T. Eric Bakutis, and would recommend them to a variety of readers. Both have strong values built into unique and colorful worlds, and I enjoyed the character depth. Grieftaker is an emotional toll- but I think that's the point- well done.
The remaining stories and prequel were all interesting and engaging, but didn't have the same resonance with me as the two mentioned above.
I found a few typos scattered around, and I find them incredibly distracting, but aside from that I really enjoyed this collection.
