Addiction is a disease and so is poverty-

Which is why people who live in "Ivory White Towers" have no clue as to why this is true drama. All the actors were amazing and showed superb acting skills with no need for all the action packed movies (done by stuntmen) like Gibson's, Willis's and so one. I work with addicts and people besieged by poverty. It is very ugly, but these patient's are my passion! Each of these actors portrayed their own internal struggle trying to survive, yet dealing with their inner demons between what is right and wrong. Until you have walked in these people shoes, you have no right to judge. Finally, for the people who have forgotten what theme means and poetic justice need to go back and take a literature class. Great drama and great acting.

A well crafted film. Somber and grey.
Verified purchase
Though it has its moments of violence, this is not a thriller. It is a somber, grey, and quiet drama that is very well executed, without a single wrong note sounding throughout. The narrative is delivered very economically through the actions of the characters, while the dialog suits each scene without being needlessly expository. The camera work paints a strong sense of place as it depicts a small American town that has literally been bypassed. Though the final scenes may leave a feeling of ambivalence, nothing in this film feels artificial or forced. This film will not make you feel good, but it is a good film.

short and lacking

This movie had potential but there are too many instances where it doesn't explain why the characters are doing the things their doing. it's just too shallow then it's over and you left wondering why you watched.

A BREATHTAKING DRAMATIC SUSPENSE FILM

NO SPOILERS. THIS IS LIKE WATCHING A FILM FROM A WILLIAM FAULKNER OR JOHN STEINBECK BOOK. IT IS SHAKESPEAREAN IN ITS SUBLIME THEMES AND BRILLIANT ACTING. THE PERFORMANCES OF JOSH HARTNETT AND MARGARITA LEVIERA SHOULD RECEIVE AN
OSCAR. THIS RELATES THE STORY OF A BROKEN FAMILY THAT IS FORCED TO DEAL OPIOIDS TO SURVIVE. LIKE FAULKNER AND STEINBECK
THE CHARACTERS ARE TRAGIC FIGURES AS IN GREEK TRAGEDY, RELATING THE STORY OF A FAMILY ON THE EDGE OF EXTINCTION. THERE ARE MANY DARK, LITERALLY, SCENES AS THEY OCCUR AT NIGHT, BUT DO NOT BE PUT OFF, AS NOTHING CAN BE SO BAD AS TO AVOID VIEWING. THE PLOT AND PERFORMANCES ARE SO MAGNIFICENT, AS WELL AS THE DENOUEMENT, I.E. UNRAVELING, AND CONCLUSION, THIS CAN NOT BE MISSED. I NEVER MISLEAD MY READERS SO PLEASE TRUST MY JUDGEMENT. A FABULOUS CINEMATIC ACHIEVEMENT. ENJOY.

Absolutely fantastic film that must be seen.

Absolutely a great movie that is very well done. Although a fictional movie it really shows the underlying issues of opiates and the havoc poverty and desperation poverty brings forcing people to do anything to get out of poverty. It highlights the evil of opiate issues plaguing poor America. Definitely not a movie to miss.

Not for fun, for real

This was put together well, even if you don't like the story line. It shows a lot of things that go on today all over the country. One made it through to start again, the other stayed mired in the muck. Don't put too much on the bad reviews either, this is a story, and some of it is very close to a world we don't need, yet can do little to change.

HUH? What was that?

Dumb, plotless, zero suspense. The film was so dark it was hard to see what characters were in the scenes.

Sad, Dark and Grey but more importantly HONEST!

This movie was very raw in my opinion, almost typical. The world can be a loving and understanding place for some of us stuck in our own bubbles. Yet, it can also be dark, tempting and evil for many. It was drama filled but not too dramatic and for some, all too familiar. Survival of the fittest! Life is what we make it and for some, well let's just say some things are better said than done. CHOICES! I will admit, initially I expected a bit more, but it's not a show and in the end I was satisfied. Good watch!
