PreSchool-K--This installment in the series appears at first glance to be a useful overview of the human body. However, while the text flows in a pleasant Seuss-like way and the colorful artwork will please fans of The Cat in the Hat, some of the information is just plain wrong. For example, the statement that there are "soft bones in your nose" is incorrect; the nose is actually made up of cartilage. In another section, the text asserts that "in our stomachs there's food we ate three days ago." Food generally passes through the stomach in a matter of hours; it may take days to eliminate from the body, but the stomach empties relatively quickly. The heart is described as the biggest muscle in the body, but the gluteus maximus is actually the largest. For a better treatment of the subject for beginning readers, try Shelley Rotner and Stephen Calcagnino's The Body Book (Orchard, 2000) or Barbara Seuling's From Head to Toe (Holiday, 2002).--Christine A. The Cat in the Hat Learning Library books are fantastic! Each book is incredibly educational while also being fun and engaging. It’s a winning combination. I can not recommend them highly enough. We have bought nearly all of the books. Even though my younger daughter has aged past them, she insists we keep buying them and will not part with them. This is a bit of a bone of contention in my house, because my older daughter teaches and wants them in her classroom. Our compromise is that my older daughter sneaks out one book at a time on an as-needed basis - and brings it right back!

One of the most delightful human anatomy books for children that I've read

This is one of the most delightful human anatomy books for children that I've read. It doesn't dumb down the details just to sound cute ("in our stomachs there's food we ate three days ago"). I learned we have exactly 206 bones in human body and for the first time discovered, by manually counting with my children, that at least 96 of them reside in our palms and feet alone. I also learned that the ear bones (hammer, anvil, and stirrup) together are the size of a grain of rice and we feel dizzy even after we stop twirling because the fluid in the cochlea keeps swirling and sending wrong signals to the brain. The book ends with a glorious illustration of a giant bladder emptying itself into the WC while a line of Dr. Suess characters (im)patiently wait their turn outside the restroom.

We have a couple other Learning Library books but this is our favorite. It’s a very fun read that is full of information. The best part is that it held my four years olds attention the entire time and he even made surprised gasps and expressions at some of the facts (600 muscles in our body!). It may be a tad too long for littles 2-3 yrs, but I think 4-7 age would really enjoy these.

My 4 year old son and 2 year old daughter both really enjoy this book. They recently have become interested in things inside your body. My son especially loves seeing the pictures of skeletons. All the pictures are drawn though, no real xrays in this book.

It’s a great visual book of our bodies’ insides. I bought it for my 2.5 year old daughter, so that she could start learning about what we have inside of us.
Here I was, showing her pictures of the brain, giving her examples, explaining how it works.
We read a few more pages, she then flipped back to the page with the brain.
I asked her, pointing to the brain, what this was. She says it’s a tree. I go, “Honey, we just talked about it. Think again, what is this?”
She goes, “It’s a flower.”
Then I realized that maybe it’s a bit early for her.. But we still love the book and she still loves to flip through the pages and ask what those things are.

No matter how many books we read per night, he is ALWAYS zoned in / laser-focused on this one. It's a nice, long read, as well (about 10 minutes or so). I absolutely love how they incorporate rhymes/fun pictures to make it very fun for the little readers, while also being equally as educational. GREAT book!!!!!

Okay the words aren't quite as good as Dr Suess, but the author captures the interest and keeps the child hooked whilst teaching at the same time.

The rhymes aren't as good as the other Cat in the Hat books. However, my son loves it and learned a lot from it. He talks about it all the time. He keep telling people that our brain is about the size of your two fists together and when he is sick, he says that his white blood cells army will eats all the germs. It's a good add to my son's library.
